Splash pluots.
Those look great. Those look bigger that my spring Satin which is the only hybrid I have of a fruiting age yet. Is that one potted as well?
Yes, it’s a potted tree; and it’s part of sweet nuggets multi-graft pluot.
Man it really seems as though you are able to size up your fruit reallywell in your containers. Mine have been variable through the years something I’m trying to get better at.
great pictures!
Splash is good tasting. The ones I have are ripening now.
There are lots of pluots I like better than Splash: Flavor Supreme, Geo Pride, Flavor King, Flavor Finale, and Flavor Treat to name a few.
By the way, I grafted your recommended pluots onto my peach trees as well - they really take easily to the peach trees.
Very attractive looking fruit indeed…
Even on citation, running 2" below average for the year in rainfall, the rest of the pluots and pluerries are watered down… I am beginning to accept that although i call my place the desert, it it not…
When do you pick them? Soft or crunchy?
They can be picked when start having some red color, crunchy and somewhat tart, to soft and sweet. I picked mine from 7/2 to 7/16, and give them to family and friends on different stages because we know their preference. No one likes it very soft though, so I clean out the trees today and put them in the fridge.
Crunchy.
Do they soften (and increase sugar/decrease tartness) upon sitting on the counter for a few days?
Mine do not improve much sitting on the counter. They get softer but not juicier or sweeter. I think they need the sun light to get redder and sweeter. In the fridge they will be the same as when we picked. I keep them in a closed plastic box with some paper towels to absorb the moisture so they don’t get molding or rot.
Splash put on a bumper crop for me this year! Extremely dry and hot weather wise, so they taste like a sweet Sweet-Tart. I’ll need to water more if we have another drought like this…
Don’t hesitate to thin those fruit. Or loose while branches like I did
