Tags that lasts forever costs almost nothing

I’m using a “metal stamping kit” which was ~$10 from Amazon. Line up the stamp and whack it with a hammer, so fairly slow… But relatively permanent (hopefully).

The aluminum sheets I’m using are probably thicker than what a hand-held embosser could handle, they’re also hand cut so not uniform. Metal tape and an embosser like the Dymo one would certainly be far more convenient though!

Use codes:
Gravenstein = GRST
Reine de Reinette = RdR
Westfield Seek No Further = WSNF

You get it. Works for me. :slight_smile:

I copied you and got one off ebay. It looks like it’s never been used, just sat around with some scratches on the bottom. It came with a roll of orginal Dymo black plastic tape, also unused $48.99. Not sure how old the DYMO-MITE TAPEWRITER is, but I do know its been a long time since they made chrome plated steel and bakelite Made in America hand tools. I tested it and works flawlessly. Took me a little fiddling to figure out how to use the cutter. But there only a couple of buttons and knobs.

Is the main ring with the letters metal or plastic?

Pop cans cost 10 cents each here.

I just got one too, may have a question about it later once i get a youtube vid created. PS to above question, i think the wheel ring itself looks usually plastic. Although some googling you see some that look more metal like these but i guess those are more rare based on what i see on ebay?:

Actually I just got one too. It has not arrived yet.
I won an eBay auction on one with what looks like a metal ring. It is also rated to work on aluminum and stainless steel tapes. I prefer tags made of metal hence my question.

This is very helpful. Mine is the model 1011 which I believe is similar to M11.

Seems like 1011 is a catalog number for M11 model.

Got a roll of stainless tape, going to try it shortly.

Interesting above pic says the M11 is for metal tape and M22 for vinyl tape (but if you say it works with M22 then thats what i got as well and will test it soon once i get the tape).

My question is, should you not advanced this part past a certain point so the ball doesn’t come out? thats what i assume (that i should always open in the opposite direction than what i did):

For my question, i think you answered above. Looks like i’ll be fine with the M22.
Just need to press a hole manually with a hole punch type tool which I guess I will also buy (never used one so not sure what to get).
Any recs for a good one I can get off Amazon?

Just tried my M-11 on a stainless tape. Looks like my machine is having trouble pulling stainless tape… not enough spacing between letter, did not advance after “S” in “crisp”.
So, I switched to my salvaged aluminum blinds (Free-to-Make Aluminum Tree Labels - #30 by ukie) - just cut a long strip, ran it through a Dymo machine, and used fine-grit sandpaper to remove the white paint from the embossed letters. I really like the final product!

@armyofda12mnkeys … i use this tool…

It is called a nail set tool. I bought this one back in the early 90s.

Just lay your tag on a scrap piece of 2x4 and that nail punch will make a nice clean hole with one tap of a hammer.

Mine looks like it is a M-33, i’ll have to find out it if it’ll do aluminum or stainless tape.

Let me know if ever find the vertical label wheel/dial for these. I’d be interested in having one of those in addition to the usual Horizontal one. I see a couple on ebay but looking at the hole and the way the back-side looks, they look like for different models vs the “7502” model.

P.S. a bit OCD of me, but i wish they had 0 and 1 on the dial in the number area vs going to the O and I letters hehe. 0O vs 1I

Question: what is the use-case for the Reverse Wheel? to be viewed from the backside of the tape vs the front?

anyone have thoughts on the DYMO Rhino M1011? looks like they come up on ebay too. @murky is this the model you have?

I’ll be getting mine in a few days. Will let you know.

Kinda cool that you can set the pressure (if some metal tags require more ‘oomf’ to press into):

I like his idea to also put yellow plastic tags so can find the metal tag in the tree.

Just bought one…I think. $60.

Is there a particular description for the roll that you print on?
