The price of fruit trees is too expensive

I don’t much care to. Like I said the market he is in has caught up to him now. Tesla is already banned for sell in certain states due to his selling model. Since he does not have physical dealerships he is outlawed in certain states from selling there. Ironic since he is supposed to be a genius to many people but did not think to look up state laws on cars when selling cars or did not care. The people who would care to have already caught up to him with making cars or surpassed him because they can sell in those states. As for opening up dealerships if he ever decides to do that we come up to a entire different issue.

I own four vehicles and the lowest mileage is probably 175k. The most is a Land cruiser with 375k true miles. I don’t necessarily think a new car is a good investment. When I was just out of school I felt differently though. Even so, my first car was a Toyota tercel 2 door sedan. No carpet, no trunk light. The thing screamed economy car. It did get great mileage.

Perhaps the same ‘too big to fail’ lending institution that gobbled up billions of taxpayer dollars??

Yes…I can relate to your situation…though I never had a ‘Tercel’. And my only new and only foreign vehicle was a short termed lease one time. And I’m fine to keep putting over 1,000 miles a month on my old trucks. Repairs are far more economical, even after 1/3 of a million miles than payments on a $100,000 truck.

Don’t you agree there should be some ‘safe driver bonus’ for anyone that can put 375K on a vehicle…most end up in the scrap yard or on the ‘frame straightening’ machine long before that?

I guess this has only a little to do with the price of fruit trees. In some cases over half of the price of a shipped fruit tree is the postage costs. :upside_down_face: So, fruit trees and the price to the grower still isn’t keeping up with the inflation of everything else.

Fruit trees like sweet pit apricots were literally 2 for 1.98 when i purchased this farm. One of the best things about living in the usa has always been growing fruit. Few people have the wealth of land and resources that we do here in the usa. We start having a reason to im confident people will come together and start figuring out how to give 1.98 for 2 trees again. .

Pawpaws and persimmons are 50 cents each in bulk at some state nurseries. I realize they are undercutting the private nurseries at that price point, there is no way to make money at that price point.

Tesla is only a small part of Musk’s genius.

There is for sure a market for expensive fruit bearing things in June/July/August.

Usually during this time people are showing off their harvests on FB and everyone seems to have selfies galore of everything they grow.

This prompts people to want to buy now. None of the good nurseries would sell during this time of year…not even big box stores sell this time of year…

But there are plenty of backyard nurseries selling on Ebay and Etsy… blackberry and raspberry plants for $50 each. Plenty of fruit trees for over $100 each.

i have honestly thought about doing it myself… having an ebay store that only sells during the summer… then another that sells the rest of the year.

There is for sure a market for fruit bearing plants in the wrong time of year.

Anyone think of taking a road trip to McMinnville, Tennessee, capital of tree nurseries?

Most are surely wholesale, but you’d think smaller local nurseries would have very competitive prices and large selection.

i was thinking of doing this too. a great way to sell seedlings and make quick profit.

Actually anything potted can be shipped pretty well now where I live. Bare root plants will not be sold right now but places like where I live will get snow in about 2 months. It is the time of year I don’t have to put on the fan at night and no blankets which tells you something. It is a great time now to plant potted trees because it is cool enough to not cook and warm enough they will not just freeze and die without establishment of roots.

Yes, have bought at wholesale more than once in McMinnville and Smithville.
Usually, though, I’m not getting a large enough order to justify the trip unless I’m making the trip for fun or ‘educational’ purposes…hence I’ve not been in 5 years or so.

When I was younger I felt hesitant to buy high priced fruit trees, but frankly I think many nurseries have been selling trees too cheaply (pre-pandemic). When I decide what prices to assign the plants I grow I factor in the following: difficulty/ease of propagation, length of time till saleable, amount of space and management labor, demand and what other nurseries sell similar plants for.

To be honest I think I have my apple trees priced too low based on the time and space they require to produce, but I don’t think I’ll sell too many if I price them at a more fair (to me) level because of buyer expectations.

I just checked Raintree nursery, Fuyu or Jill persimmon tree is $89.99, I can’t remember what I paid but this is definitely rip off territory.

Ha…yeah, they can have a 50% off sale now and people’ll think they’re getting a bargain.
How quick the $36 price from not that long ago is forgotten.

What about BayLaurelnursery? Are they any good?

I’ve gotten three trees from them and they are all doing well.
