The quest for Ube (dioscorea alata)

Mine from Etsy from the person mentioned earlier in the thread grew really well. I got at least 8 of the the bulbils to sprout. Some took over 2 months to sprout so don’t give up on them. Also, I did this in spring and I’m in zone 8a.

I grew them in large plastic planters made to look like half whiskey barrels. I let the wines grow on to a fig tree and a pear tree. The one that grew vigorously produced about 6 yams, most about 6 inches each. As someone mentioned they may need another season of growth to get a large yam.

Have two more to harvest but now waiting on my MIL to visit so she can hopefully make something out of it.

I can probably get ya’ll some from the Asian markets up the streets and around the corner in/ around Seattle. Huge filipino population here. If ya’ll are still looking, let me know and I’ll look for them on my next outing
