Tired of fruit growing misinformation? Call the sellers out on this thread!

I get really upset with misinformation. Zone 3-10 outdoor citrus is really crossing the line. They specifically claim this citrus as “Zones 3-10 (Outdoors)”. Owari Satsuma is cold hardy down to 28 F degrees which is parts of zone 8,9 and up. Please do not believe the information websites like this are putting out there.

If you grow just one kind of sweet-fleshed citrus, the Owari Satsuma is the perfect choice. This is the hardiest of the sweet citrus fruits, surviving even down to 150F. It will grow in most kinds of soil that are well-drained as since it is a small tree it can also be easily grown in pots in cooler areas. The delicious fruits are very, very easy to peel and the sweet, juicy flesh has no seeds. It ripens during the Christmas holiday period and will bring joy to all your family. Besides being hardy for a citrus tree, the Owari Satsuma is easy to grow in any sunny location and needs no specialized care to produce baskets of delicious fruit at the ideal time of the year. Make this your choice for a citrus tree and you will be sure to enjoy its harvest for years to come.

  • Delicious fruit for Christmas

  • Easily grown and heavy cropping

  • Stays small for easy growing in pots

  • Beautiful scented ‘orange-blossom’ flowers

  • Attractive evergreen, glossy foliage

Grow your Owari Satsuma outdoors in zone 8, 9 or 10. Choose a sunny spot, with good drainage. In wetter soil, plant on a slight mound. Grow it a pot in colder areas, bringing it indoors from a little before the first frost to early spring. It will happily spend the winter in a cold porch or any other cool, well-lit spot. Be sure that the pot you use has a drainage hole and plant it in a well-drained potting soil. When growing outdoors, choose a sunny spot, and water whenever the soil has become party dry. Outdoor trees will usually be free of pests.

@Richard

Thanks Richard I cleaned it up a bit.

its bad enough theyre lying but then theyre charging horribly inflated prices. none of these places should be allowed to be in business. sadly many new growers fall for it and are turned off from the hobby after the tree / plant fails.

when searching for a fruit tree, i never buy from the 1st. 3 or 4 results that come up. they are usually the worst culprits.

To be fair to them they did say it somewhat correctly twice-

Owari gets frost damage in South Georgia…lol

Owari can die here in zone 9a, several cold periods since 2020. Lots of mature citrus trees died in this area from cold damage since 2020.

I’m growing an Arctic Frost which is more cold hardy than Owari.

How cold hardy is Arctic Frost?

Don’t know exactly. Cold hardiness has a lot to do with how many hours below freezing they get. Just a few hours or a long stretch. Also, the maturity of the tree.

I agree with Wisner. Cold hardiness isn’t something you can pin down with a zone number. It depends. But still, most nurseries are overly optimistic and in some cases, (like the nursery above) down right deceptive.

my cousin is sweet as pie. best friend since childhood

she sent me a seed collection from temu. AI art and description on the packs of seeds which are not what the label says. I’ll probably put them in one big pot and see what they all are at some point. i thanked her, it was a nice gesture at least
