Trailman is tastier the colder it gets. A few light frosts and I can’t stop eating it. In zone 2 it is a workhorse.

It’s ripe in early July here… so no chance of a frost.

Anyone from Virginia and more south growing this apple? I am wondering how it will do in my area. I have already planted 2 but I’m considering replacing one with Yates which may be a more sure bet.
@Paul-VA I’m in southern KY, about 20 miles north of the TN line. Considered zone 7a on the current USDA hardiness zone map. Trailman does fine here; it’s my favorite apple that I’ve grown. Ripe mid-July here.

My Trailman crabapple (planted last year) is growing fine in northern KY (zone 6A) , our farm is in a valley next to a river. We have extremely high disease pressures due to high humidity and heat, but so far all my “diseases resistant” varieties are doing fine.
