Thanks for sharing about red rock. Have you gotten the cherry/berry flavors from it their website claims? The good storage? ![]()
I’m not the best at describing flavors. I’d say Redrock does have some unique flavors, maybe berry would be accurate. Flavor does become more pronounced with storage. I don’t have any left in the crisper now, but those that I did have were crisp and great for fresh eating through December. I’d guess they would be the same now.
One gal I gave a bunch of Redrock to really loved them. She asked if I’d graft her a tree. I’ve got a few B10 rootstocks coming so I can get that done. Neither she or I are young so I wanted a northern hardy rootstock that might produce fruit in a couple years.
i have westcot, brookcot , hoyt montrose and a few others i forget the name, growing on my black ice plum. they are 2 years old but havent fruited yet. when they do ill let you guys know . i have 2 har grafted trees coming this spring. dont remember which ones but i picked for later blooming and didease resistance. keep us posted on how yours do. i have 4 siberian peaches about 4 ft. is your good one big enough to share scions? im going to take some off my apricots and graft onto them once they fruit and i see how they do.
i havent really followed apricots but its a correct statement that there is no late flowering/consistently fruiting variety for a zone 5a/b?
also, going to get chilly again:
The snowpack in Washington and Colorado is appallingly low as of early March. Anyone scaling back plans due to foreboding summer drought?
not me, ive got irrigation ran to most of my stuff tho…
The stuff I plant either makes it on its own or it doesn’t.
I believe it was 2021 where my location had less than 3” of rain from May through August. Most of my trees survived.
We had that for three years, drought like you mentioned.2021, 2023, and 2024. I lost 5 new trees I planted in 2024 because I could not give them enough water. The rest of my established trees made it though all the drought years. Luckily.
im of the same mindset. i water regularly the 1st year if needed. after that they sink or swim.
