Yeah it could end up a nasty storm if everything happens as predicted. The snow is just starting here. We’re prepared as best we can. It was sunny yesterday so the batts got a full charge. They’ve dropped off a little overnight so I’m going to grid charge them to top them off in case we do lose the grid.
With up to 10in of wet snow and up to a half inch of freezing rain, widespread outages are expected. The batts will carry us thru for another day, but not more than two. If need be we can go down the old house where there’s propane heat.
You guys are having a blizzard conditions, that kind of weather isn’t expected here at least.
We’re both recovering from some kind of croop, my wife went to urgent care last week and tested negative for Covid and RSV, but has had some kind of upper respiratory bug for over a week. I was fine until Thu night, had chills, aches and overnight fever. Don’t have any of that now, feeling better but still have a nagging cough. Lots of folks getting some kind bug whether it’s a stomach flu or respiratory. This weather isn’t helping matters. Stay safe and healthy everyone.
What area are you in? We’re north of Morehead (NE KY) and it’s not doing anything here yet, even tho the radar says we are getting snow. Probably won’t really start here until noon.
Just starting to snow here in SW Ohio. The weather reports are all over the place as far as the amount of snow we are supposed to be getting. Anywhere from 3-5" or 1-3", then as much as 8-12" of snow.
Stay safe everyone.
Coming down pretty heavy here, already have an inch already after about an hour. Road right now is snow packed. Moisture content of the snow is low, it doesn’t stick really well, so that means it won’t weigh down things as much as a wet snow. Visibility is about half mile and dropping as it’s coming down hard now.
Road’s looking bad already, but I expect it to get plowed eventually.
fluffy light snow is much better than heavy wet. even with our mostly evergreen forests, wet snow isnt a real problem until it gets about 8in. unless a lot of wind is forecasted as well. we got lots of cold wind but only flurries here the next 4 days. some -20 windchills forecasted.
Snow has let up, I was outside looking around. The road hasn’t been plowed and county has closed all roads except for state and emergency vehicles. It seemed like it was sleeting more than snow, we’re right on the cusp of both.
Woke up to about 1/4 inch of ice on trees & cars this morning. Has been raining almost all day. Roads were clear & wet when I drove the SxS over to the neighbor’s house this morning. Ice still hanging here at dusk, and slush on the front stairs, but nothing but rain since daylight.
KY has about 60K without power, mostly in the west and in the central counties. No outages in our county yet, but we’ve been getting heavy sleet for the last few hours. Snow totals look like about 8".
I just went out to check things, trees aren’t iced over and nothing on power lines. Winds are picking up a bit which will make things worse. Looks like we’re in for wintry mix until dawn then more snow coming in. Finally heard the plow go up and down the road.
Got some pics while I was out. Hope everyone stays safe and not lose power.
85K in KY without power, we never lost ours thankfully. The university we work at just said they’d be closed tomorrow also. We couldn’t go if we wanted because we’re still under a county travel restriction. Getting a little more snow now with maybe 1-3" later today. Then it’s going to start getting really cold.
We got 9" of snow and a small layer of ice underneath. The roads were a mess early morning. They are slowly getting them cleared up. Lots of things closed today. Even some of the banks were closed. We are suppose to get a few more inches of snow over the next day or so.
Down here in southern middle TN… our temp yesterday morning was 30F… and that was the high for the day… all lay long we stayed pretty close to that temp… occasionally showing 28 29.
This morning 30F so far.
We got some really fine snow yesterday… very little accumulation.
I spent about 4 hours out in it… cutting splitting stacking firewood.
Between Louisville and Frankfort. We ended up getting 6" and then some ice. Didn’t lose power but it was an adventure getting the car out of the driveway today.
