Does anyone grow both of these grapes? Can you compare taste, sweetness, etc. I have Jupiter and have been considering Venus if it is a bit different.
I have ‘Venus,’ ‘Jupiter’ and ‘Mars.’ Unfortunately, I’ve haven’t done any comparisons between them, but maybe that will be possible this year…
My supposedly Venus vine died. Jupiter vine produced but had either downy or powdery mildew making spraying necessary. Birds were a huge problem. Jupiter grapes are really nice tasting at their peak ripeness.
I really like the flavor of Jupiter and I have clusters now so should have a small harvest. Two years ago I had a few to eat then several of my grapes froze to the ground the following winter. They recovered nicely last summer and all have clusters. I also have Himrod, Canadice and a couple unknowns. I did purchase a start of Suffolk a few weeks ago. Now I need a good arbor for the Jupiter and I think I will put the Suffolk with it. Still might consider one of the planet varieties if they are different.
Your post made me think of the Muscat Beauty variety.
I would have that vine in my orchard in a heartbeat if I knew that it would grow here. Unfortunately it is a vinifera variety and will only tolerate a dry climate.
What type of climate is yours?
I’m in northern Idaho, so very cold in winter, rainy spring generally, and hot dry summer. Going to be in the 90’s for awhile with no rain. No humidity to worry about. I have never had to spray for fungus on grapes, birds don’t bother too much but the yellow jackets can be a problem. When I looked at the muscat varieties I didn’t think they would survive the cold. I think it was last year the store had some muscat grapes, they were high priced but I bought a few and they were really good. The Jupiter grape is said to have a slight muscat flavor. I really like its flavor and it is firmer. The other seedless grapes I have are sweet and juicy but have a soft texture.
