Verry Cherry plums

Hi John.4.21.23
My Verry cherry plum seedling is blooming now. I named it “Vincent cherry plum “. The weather is still too cool at mid 40 F. I am waiting in a few more weeks and find out how it’s doing for this year. Below its picture in bloom now. @John_P

Today I saw a lot of little fruitlets John. Looks very promising but a lot of flowers still on the tree. I am very happy but to early to tell. Be patient for another couple weeks. I will post pictures here as soon as fruitlets big enough. @John_P

Lol, sorry I’m very impatient. I know it has only been 7 days. I really hope it is good, because all the verry cherry scion seedling is taking. I think it is grafted on like 7 trees, and they are very vigorous!

BTW, with your flowers/fruitlets timing would you say it will ripen maybe Aug-Sept?

@John_P your areas in California a lot warmer than Seattle. It’s easier to success for fruit ripening. Everything still on testing with me. Wait and see after this Summer.

@John_P here you go. All these pictures just took in early morning today 5.3rd23. Flowers still are not done blooming yet. Very tiny fruitlets but will see them better in a couple more weeks. The weather is very cool at night, 50F, it’s take a long time but “hope” some fruits for this coming summer John.

Hi Vincent,
Your tree has a similar blossom schedule as my wild Goose trees. It’s a bit early yet to see any fruitlets and I don’t even know if it is self fertile, but I’m hoping so. I got these two from Okios about 5 years ago and this year they were loaded with blossoms. I think they are two different cultivars since the blossoms are quite different. It could be that your Very Cherry would be a good compliment since the blossom schedule matches more closely that all others I have.

@DennisD my cherry plum now see some fruitlets but it might dropped as previous years. Anyway the tree still young. Hopefully some fruitlets will be matured this summer Dennis. I think it will be successful on this seedling. I will keep updating very soon. Vincent.

Hi Vincent
Please do, you know the Very Cherry scion I got from you two years ago actually has two fruitlets on its first limb! I completely missed seeing its blossoms since they would have occurred about the same as yours.

I think you will get about 50-60% reaching maturity on your Very Cherry. I did a graft of Kuban Comet on my neighbors red flowering plum in 2021. It actually had 28 fruitlets formed this spring, now it still has 13 hanging on! See pic

This year I completed top working his tree which is about 25 years old. It now has these varieties which all appear to be taking quite well:
Bills Red plum topworked: 4 th Street: 1 ea, Spring Satin: 3 ea, Santa Rosa:1 ea, Stedman large: 1 ea, Mexican: 2 ea, unk: 1 ea, AU cherry plum: 1 ea, Stedman Small: 1 ea, WG: 5 ea, Emmons: 4 ea, President: 1 ea, Sweet Treat Pluerry: 1 ea, Beech: 5 ea, Hollywood: 1 ea, Santa Rosa: 2 ea, SM Rosa: 1 ea, P Brigantine: 1 ea, TT: 1 ea, Black Ruby: 1 ea, Toka: 2 ea, President: 1 ea, Lavina: 4 ea, Cuban Comet: 1 ea,

The ones you grafted for me have a couple fruitlets also on Nadia and the others 2 aren’t growing much. Verry interesting to checking on fruit trees every day @DennisD

You mean “Vincent cherry plum" scions, right?

At that time Vincent called it Very Very Cherry but still the same tree I think. So that’s what I labeled it 2 years ago.

This is really getting me hyped up. Cant wait for the fruit report I hope it is something better than sweet treat and candy heart or atleast a different ripening time so we can extend harvest season for pluerries!

Hi John
Why have you been disappointed in Sweet Treat and Candy Heart? My two year old grafts of Sweet Treat are setting fruits this year first time, they seem very productive. The only thing I have to compare are Oblinaya and Kuban Comet, also very productive for fruit setting. I don’t have Candy Heart.
