What is your most underrated fruit? Mine is BFF fig.!

I’m in love with my in-ground BFF, Bass’ Favorite Fig, this year. I can understand why Bass gave it that name. It produces beautiful black figs up to 100 g. They are fabulous fresh or partially dried. Dry enough to store in the freezer for up to 6 months.

My tree looks magnificent this year. Vigor is perfect and good fruit set. I’ve had heavier fruit set in the past on this variety, but it’s not done growing or setting this year.

This fig deserves more hype than it gets…!!

Feel free to nominate your most underrated fruit, fig or otherwise.

Mulberries! I have hundreds of pounds i never pick ! I eat all i want and never spray! Whats not to love? Underated by everyone because they should be on the invasive list they are so easy to grow.

Tough to pick. We see untold amounts never picked here. Probably into the millions of pounds in just the tricounty area . Grapes and Blackberries. Best Jelly and Wine ever.

I bet you could open a jelly brand if you got permission to pick.

Apples and Honeyberries for me. No spray, no real maladies, and very minimal protection required when young. Then years of fruit.

My top 2 favorite fruits are figs (chicago hardy) and persimmons (rich tooie, persimonilla). Hard to say which is best.

I have 4 new persimmons still holding fruit and sizing up… for the first time this year… ws810, h63a, kasandra, ikkjiro.

I hope to get to try some of those.

By season…

Spring… strawberries

Late spring early summer mulberries blackberries, raspberries, blueberries.

Late summer… Novamac apples

Fall… figs and persimmons.
