What's happening today 2016?

WOw…its the exact opposite here. I had 1.94 inches of rain last night with one storm. Many areas had more. Mosquitoes will be carrying away small children.

I put out a trap for Rose Chafers and probably caught (killed) 1000 or so. I know it just draws them in, but it feels good. You could try mass trapping. Might want to put down milky spore (i did years ago…not sure if its done anything) or use a grub killer later on in the summer after they lay eggs.

Grubex is supposed to kill the beetle grubs. I put it down this spring. I’ll let you know how well it works. It’s worth the try for $20.

How do you tell when flavor grenade is ripe since it is a firmer pluot? Do you base it on color?

There is a Bt variant which supposedly kills adult beetles (japanese and the like). No clue how well or if it works as I don’t get them here, but might be worth a try. I believe Gardens Alive carries it.

If they are getting lots of water the tip turns purple, they start to go soft, and mature early. They’re not very good that way and run around 18 brix. If water is restricted enough they mature as much as 6 weeks later at mid 20s brix and have the crisp texture. I’ve had them above 30 brix when dry enough.

The maturity differences can happen with many of the pluots. Dry enough and they mature weeks later at higher brix and firmer texture. Maybe applies to your current maturities we’ve discussed before??

The tips on yours are starting to turn purple. You should try one of those. They don’t hold on the tree in that condition. Better to pick before that tip goes soft.

They look like white apricots. I want one too!

Cuttings for grafting?

It was a flower show trick, to keep peonies it top shape before judging. Only vodka.

Okay one last wheel barrow picture. I painted both and put the other handles I made on my other one.

Better than new!

I wasn’t going to paint them, but you talked me into it. I’m glad you did. I already had a quart of black rustoleum. The total project only cost me $38. Plus you cant buy handles that big and made from Osage Orange.

It is hard for most people to understand what kind of effort it takes to make a wooden handle like the ones you have here. I am very impressed and understand what you put into these wheelbarrows.

High winds and rain, my poor tree :weary:

Oh my. What a heart break to see that.

Didn’t get a chance to really look it over but, it looks like a break at the graft. This is a Jonagold from a large garden center that has some nice trees. Of the trees that I might of expected to fall over, this wasn’t one of them. I wonder if I can pull some buds off of this and put it on some rootstock that lost their grafts? Hmmmm got me thinking again :skull_crossbones:
