Where's the cheapest place to buy Autumn Olives for Goumi rootstock?

I’ve dug up Autumn Olive rootstocks before for grafting but may not be able to dig up any this season. I’m looking for the cheapest place online to buy Autumn Olive rootstocks potted or bare root. I would even pay someone to dig some up during dormancy and ship to me bare root.

You can also propagate them without having to dig if you desire.

We are in the closing process on a property that is overrun with autumn olive. Assuming the lawyers don’t encounter any shenanigans that prevent the sale (which I suppose unlikely, but then again, there’s a reason buyers pay $$$$ for them to check…) we will have a lot of the buggers to do something with. I would definitely be willing to dig and send AO rootstock in exchange for goumi scion this winter. I plan to be looking for a bunch of goumi scion to graft over the AO. I’m also just going to be looking for a bunch of scion period. Nobody told me that grafting was addictive. After a small degree of success this spring, I now want to graft everything!

I’m in VA - I don’t know how far you are from me but you are welcome to all the autumn olive plants you want from my property - and I have SO SO SO SO SO many. All sizes. I’ll PM you.

A.O is very easy to root from cuttings. stick a bunch in ground just before the 1st frost and most will grow the next spring. less work than going in the tick infested woods digging them.

Thanks for the tip. I was over there today and realized there are probably have fewer than I thought that are actually small enough to dig easily. There’s no shortage of total plants, I assume they just get big quickly. That said, for my own use I’ll probably just be satisfied with the locations where big bushes exist. May stick a few cuttings as barter items for trading season though.

That property definitely has a healthy crop of ticks! I’ve jokingly said the summer after we move our Banty hens are going to be so fat they look like Tyson birds lol.
