Something similar in this region that manages to live on lichens. I see them every few years, probably because I don’t spend enough time in the woods. One lepidopterist said the wild coloring acts as a warning they are toxic. Huh.
This is one of the bobcats that live on my property. We picked him up on camera this last winter when he walked across the open hay field. The people who put up the hay thought it was larger than a bobcat. It is a big one but it is a bobcat. Mountain lions have a really long tail. There are mountain lions here as well, though they are rare. The mountain lion i saw here had a very long tail that kind of hooked up at the end. Two deer came speeding through tonight.

IT HASN’T EVEN RIPENED
Never seen this type of bird before until just a few days ago when one landed in front of me, looked at me, and flew off. Now I’m seeing them all day
Those are towhees, related to sparrows
Thank you, they are friendly as well but mannnnn i just wish they would at least wait for things to ripen. They’ve been cleaning out my fuschias.
Every few years I have a “pet” brown Towhee. I don’t feed it directly, but it will take up a perch nearby and occasionally provide a chirp or two of encouragement. This goes on until the Fall and then they are off somewhere for winter.
Fresh spider hatchlings. Always see a couple of these in the spring. They hover a couple days in a ball, and then all fly off in a breeze with silk string kites. It’s quite the sight to see.
My tree frog numbers go up every year. I love them being around. As my trees get bigger all of the wildlife is changing. These frogs are neearly invisible on the trunk of a pear tree.
If you want to really increase the population just leave your pool cover on one summer…ask me how I know
There were 5 baby groundhogs roaming around. One of the babies was more shy/afraid and did not venture too far away from my shed. They are living under the shed. I see one of the parents running around my pond a lot of the days. This is the closest I could get without them running back under the shed.
These baby owls were in my tree next to the driveway last year. The mom tried another nest in the same tree but I think there was too much activity around the tree this year. I can still hear the parent owls hooting back and forth at night close by though. Maybe next year they will try to build their nest in that tree again. They have the fork of the tree it two times now.
Disclosure: This guy wasn’t in my garden. Rather passed him on the way home. I’ve only seen one other ever, so I thought it rare enough to share and didn’t want to start a new thread.
Bunny 1 said “I’m gonna phone a friend.” So now there are 2 that come by regularly to the point where they know the way around the fencing lol
Those things are so dang cool.
Hummingbirds bring life to my garden ![]()
Our resident whistlepig just had 3 (at least) baby groundhogs herself.
