Wrap around plant tags that last - what material?

I made the mistake of buying some plastic wrap-around plant tags last year, and that’s about how long they last.

Some of the similar style plant tags coming from the commercial nurseries, seem to have no problems after 5 years in the sun. I suspect they’re vinyl.

Anyone know what material of this style tag has the best life, esp. in higher UV environments? I see there are some vinyl, as well as some HDPE, and likely others as well.

Specific recommendations welcome, as well.

Thanks!

I gave up on fabric/plastic/tape tags finally. Just ordered 300 aluminum tags. I have about 10 missing tag trees I will have to figure out.

I like the idea that @Lucky_P does, burying a aluminum tag at the base of the tree and hanging one in the tree.
Our bushytail tree rats (squirrels) will chew a aluminum tree tag up ithats hanging in a tree n a couple years .

Yeah, I have those too. First year I grafted on a tree was maybe 15 apple varieties, and within that first year, I lost about half the tags! I do like them in the longer term, but sometimes a quick tag is needed without the hassle of getting out the wire, etc.

Did you ever try vinyl or hdpe versions of the tags?

Thanks for sharing! I like that idea for whole trees. Mine have actually not done that yet, but I can totally see it happening.

Damn the squirrels!

I have some vinyl tags. About 100 I think. Also tried writing on bags. That quickly faded out.
