Hi, are you going to leave the trees out after grafting or take them back indoors?
If you leave them out they could get blasted by late deep freezes if they are already awake.
Also could you publish your name on your page? just a first name is enough. So I can address you properly.
A few more grafts done today. The 2 on the plum rootstocks are regrafts because Lavina and Santa Rosa didn’t take (they were dried out and brittle).

Rubaiyat, Dolgo Crabapple & Wickson Crabapple
out of electrical tape and these zipties are easy to cut so decided to use them…It looks like you have a cut below the wrap.
It split after i wrapped it i guess. Should i wrap around that too?
Yeah cover all cuts with film so it doesn’t dry out
tastes like water 
It does taste like water i did it.
You know I’ve thought about using zip ties on more than one occasion.

Just today I tried a couple grafts of an unknown crabapple that lives on the side of the road near my parent’s house. Nice tasting, large, juicy fruits that I have pickled in the past with my grandma.
It probably won’t be around much longer because they have been developing the area. It has really become busy in the past couple years; a disappointment, really.
I took quite a few cuttings and I want to try to graft and root them.
I actually took some cuttings in the summer, 2024, and tried to to root them (thinking it was the wrong thing to do but I need this apple!) One looked like it took, two others I tried to plant in ground and we will see if they come out when spring really hits.
If you can find the developer, you may be able to ask them to excavate the tree for you. Some are really nice and will sit it on the side of the road for you
D: I have no idea how to do that! Right now the land is undeveloped, but all around it is. This crabapple appears to be quite old as well, so would it even survive?
If I remember I can try to get pictures next time I go.
This is normal for me for mulberries. They still take eventually and stop leaking.
Can they not flood the graft like figs or kiwi?
I’m not sure. It’s more like water than milky sap. It will leak down the buddy tape but the grafts still take.
Is it okay to mess up the soft core while slicing the scion and still have it take?
