Washing one for breakfast in the morning! What a beauty!
Ok i didn’t wait until morning. Never trust me with an abate fetel pear. I enjoyed it as much or more than i thought i would. It was wonderful! If you can grow these i highly recommend them! Sweet and delicious!
Gorgeous, very envious.
Thank you. I got lucky this year.
How does it compare to Magness in taste and texture?
This pear has been on my list of wants for years now and I have yet to find a place to buy scion. Like lahortelana, this is my favorite from the store. This winter if anyone here would like to sell a stick or two, please let me know!
My daughter took a few Abbe Fetel pears to work today. She texted me at lunch time and said they all thought those were the best pears they have even eaten…even better than the pears from Harry and David. So more votes for the Abbe Fetel !!!
Abate fetelwasoriginally very hard for me to source so i want to get it to others. We will figure something out.
My last few Abbe Fetal pears for this year. Sad to see them all off the tree.
There’s one Kieffer pear in the front laying down and one Kieffer pear to the far front right.
Abate Fetel showed up in my local organic grocery store today. All the way from Argentina, according to the sticker. First one eaten was probably not quite ripe yet. I liked the texture, but I hope for better out of my eventually mature tree.
My crop was small like the pears this year. The taste is incredible! How are yours doing this year?
My Abete fetal are actually really nice sized this year. Some are really big. I will take and post a photo here in a week or so. I checked mine yesterday and they are not quite ready yet. They are just now starting to get some blush. Knowing yours pears taste incredible makes me look forward to them even more this year. Even the small ones taste delicious.
They look amazing just hanging on the tree.
How vigorous is Abate Fetel? Is it precocious?
Grafted half of an established tree to it this year and got 4 foot or more of growth.
Is it precocious? How soon did it produce for you?
It is a semi biennial producer like most pears. It produces on the lighter side. The tree grows good. I get a couple dozen or more good sized pears every other year. On a greeat year i would get 50 pears. This year was the lighter year and the pears were smaller than last year.
Thanks for your responses Clark. Did it produce in its 3rd or 4th year, or later?
