I thought some of you might get a kick out of this. If you have a similar one or know anything about this one feel free to share!
I saw a YouTube video with a similar machine. Strictly for bench grafting.
It’s basically the same design as the Chinese Zenport knockoff some of us have.
Those are really-really hard to find. It’s an old grape grafting tool is what it was designed for. Originally French maybe, not sure?
You ever want to sell it… you let me know.

Bill Totten, the man that grew the ortet Hark pecan showed me this one of his which I cleaned up for him. It had been tucked away and was full of grime. These are the after photos.

Nice job, Dax. But I’m not clear on just how it works. Maybe if you have time you could do another couple photos with a stick in it? That would be very useful and much appreciated.
That’s awesome Dax! Thanks for all of the info. It is French, A1 Systeme Vieux Brevette S. G. D. G. Is written on one side. It’s also dated 1917, it’s so weird that grafting tools really haven’t evolved much in a hundred years, I guess if it Ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I had it in my possession for a week or so several years ago.
You rest the wood and pull the handle down to cut a V-shape. One side of the V is the scion and the other reverse cut is for the rootstock (vice versa.) It’s very straightforward. I don’t believe it could be explained and simpler.

Those are some beautiful tools-- precursors to the modern Fieldcraft topgrafter (on the left)-- which was cloned by Chinese manufacturers.(on the right)
Thanks Dax. Got it!
I have one for sale, if you’re interested.
I just found another one the other day. I guess they aren’t as rare as I thought.
The dude from miracle farms shows using a more modern hand tool… to accomplish something like a cleft graft… apple scion to rootstock.
He grafts some Nova Mac… in one of his videos…
Hello can you find me an old grafting machine because I am a hobby plant grafter so I need one like this thank you very much
Dear Kgreen
I am interested in this machine
Is that one still up for grabs? I would be interested in it if Dax hasn’t already swooped in. Same for you @Kgreen
Hello I am intersted how much is that yours sincerely Fazli
Here’s some cuts. I’m going to start grafting (oaks for fun) very soon. This is heartnut, so same sometimes knarley-ness to the wood such as being twisted, very dense, not flat anywhere, etc… all the things that make it hard. And hard because often the cambium is twisting too, etc. So, that’s why a lot of trees are bark grafted. A long flat cut w/ twisted wood is still flat and can be slid under the bark and all the cambium meets/unites with rootstock-cambium. But, this is one hell of a tool. It’s so easy to operate.
