I don’t have any yet identified that are better storage varieties that ripen in November. I don’t know how well Duchess d’Angouleme stores.
Pineapple is not earlier harvest it is much later than harrow delight. I have grown them for years.
Then that is a data error from the website I scraped data off of. Do you have any good recommendations for an earlier pear than Harrow Delight? Do you see any obvious errors on the maturity dates above?
There are several of them. One i grow is admire Jeanette. I can send you some wood if you would like to try it. Can send you pineapple etc too if you like.
Pineapple is a September pear. The ones the usda sent me are excellent for southern pears but not a thing like what others claim there pineapple pears are. We dont know Corvallis is always right either
Chestnut hill might say the usdasent me the wrong one
That is a good one. I show it should mature about the 10th of July. Is this what you have seen? Also, looks like pollen group 3.
Yes that is correct and maybe in June for you
Here is another good for early ripeming Anyone growing June Sugar pear?
Can anyone here growing Turnbull comment on the fall foliage? Mine has vibrant red/crimson leaves unlike any I’ve seen on my other pears.
well i purchased a box of 6 hosui pears from honeycrisp.com to give a try- I am very impressed by the flavor. My wife found them a little mealy.
What variety (provided it blooms would overlap with callery pear, so early april), would you suggest? It could go even more honeyed flavor than hosui but if it had the flavor of hosui I would be pleased. The texture could be finer, I didnt find it mealy but rather, coarse.
I like Korean Golden quite a bit. It has a crunchy texture with a lot of juice.
Re red foliage, most pears have deep red foliage mixed with green and sometimes brown. The brightest orange/red colors show up in callery pears.
I also have a callery tree on my land near Hamilton, AL that has bright yellow foliage.
Do you have experience with Perry pears? Any that may do well in Northern Florida? I have planted Warren, Plumblee and Butt. Butt does not look like it likes it here, too susceptible to fungal disease. Wonder what I should replace it with, think about Kiefer.
That is typical red pear foliage. Note the deep red leaves, red over green, and a couple that appear almost brown.
More on this, i tried a second one and it was far less sweet and honeyed. The first one had a sort of brown tint to the center of the flesh and the second was snow white all the way through, is this just a ripeness thing?
I found this lol. Do i just like over ripe rotten pears? Asian Pear: Internal Browning | Postharvest Research and Extension Center
It was not nearly as dark as these pics
Heres a couple of new/old ones-
