I might get grapes this year. it’s year 4! lots of things budding and blooming finally. even the hazelnuts look pretty happy. I forgot to pull the flowers off that apple sapling I hope it’s ok. my dwarf banana is coming back, and there’s poppies and irises. my raspberries are only just starting. I bagged baby plums today.
@Naeem … I have a 15 year old seedless concord grape vine… that has never been sprayed with anything… and it produces a decent crop of grapes every year (except 2019… late late frost).
But each year when the grapes start sizing up and the clusters start getting tight… I prune the vine canopy… for airflow and morning sun exposure to the grape clusters.
I leave all canopy that shades from midday and evening sun… but remove all that would stop morning sun from hitting the grape clusters. I also remove any leaves down under the main canopy near the grape clusters… for better air flow.
Never had any type of fruit rot or powerdy mildew type isssurs. I do have to bag them when they start ripening or the birds will get most.
I just pruned mine about a week ago.
All that extra canopy that was blocking morning sun from the grape clusters…
Mulch.
This works best if you run your trellis north - south… mine is not exactly that but close… and it works well for me.
The peachy/rosé color of those is very attractive! How’s the flavor?
@Naeem - NICE looking berries… my raspberries are about to play out here… I picked some blacks today but only found a few reds left… still getting a few loganberries but they are about done too with only a few more left.
The last two or three weeks of extra hot weather… made for some quick raspberry ripening.
My spring crop if finishing up a good week earlier this year than last year.
Froze a lot, Jammed a lot… got blackberries coming on now… but will miss the raspberries for sure… until about September when the fall crop comes on.
Got some cherry and grape tomatoes ripening now.
First tomato of the season has formed! This is Pink Boar:
The honeyberries are changing color more quickly now:
Its very good flavor more on sweet side as compare to others. I like it alot.
funny how im in z4 and you zone 8 and my honeyberries and tomatoes are at the same point of growth. it must be the similar daylight hours.
Also we had an unusually cool spring, the tomatoes are at least 2 weeks behind their usual stage. But yes, I’m sure being around the same latitude plays a big role, since zone 8 in the SE is like 2 months ahead of us.
we have had a cool wet spring also… the fruit trees and bushes are mostly on schedule but the veggie seeds have mostly rotted before sprouting. only thing that wasnt bothered was the brassicas but they love cold anyway.
@Naeem … good looking grapes. They look happy to me.
I picked a few more illini blackberries this eve… and watered my new okra starts.
Man it is HOT here… Okra weather.

More plums. Santa Rosa - absolutely phenomenal, brix around 15 but explosion of different flavors. One of my favorites. Lavina - 17 brix, very sweet, honey flavor. More ripening on a 1 year graft
What size is the container? Definitely looks like a happy little tree!
