Haskap, just don’t like them I prefer a blueberry. Second is Honeycrisp apple, always crisp but the crispness does not make up for the watery flavour.

Yes, found honey crisp apple to be overrated. In fact I’ve never eaten one I really liked.

Same. All asian pears i have tried are wet potatoes.

Pepino dulce, the one I got was watery and tasteless and had a strange flavour.

Yeah,. I kept hoping for a good one but I doubt I will ever find that unless I grow it myself.

Not mine… there are very bad ones but there are very good ones too. Mine are big and taste like cantaloupe melon… really good and refreshing!

I grow the plant myself, so it should be different from store ones.
Also the plant does not produce much fruit and and the fruit is devoid of seeds (parthenocarpy). So I think that the variety I have is flawed and there must be varieties that are delicious and produce well (from what I see from the others in internet).

That is amazing productivity. What breeding lines are you following?
Have you worked with any of the newer African okra seeds from Baker Creek?

Black raspberry.
I grow Jewel. It has the most odd, weird flavor. Tastes like neither raspberry nor blackberry. I keep trying to like it, but just can’t. I think I will pull the plants out and replace with more red raspberry varieties.
Also… turnips. I keep trying to like those as well, to no avail.

Inbreeding while doing yeast symbiosis on leaves & FeMo-Cofactor enzyme nitrogen fixation on roots,
Combined with selection.
Cantaloupe, tomato, grapes, corn:
Yeast symbiosis & selecting for gibberellin hormone responsiveness.
Mango & Asimina triloba research just beginning…
No charts, started with genetically stable heirlooms & inbred during gibberellin up regulation.

Another sister plant, not every seed resulted in the exact same thing.
I select the traits I want.
These were growing in the Sonoran Desert outside of Tucson.
On okra short internode & long fruit.

Original as a control group water only on the right.

When temperatures reached 117°F with 8% humidity,
Miracle-Gro left & mine on the right!
This is a combination of nitrogen fixation on roots via FeMo-Cofactor enzyme & nitrogen fixation & symbiosis on the leaves via wild yeast in a form of fixation with Nickel enzymes which require sunlight.

Richard this is actually old research from 8 years ago.
I know probably 10 times as much about controlling yeast symbiosis now then at the time of those pics.
I’ve moved on to Asimina triloba & plan on doing far better things with it than the okra.

I have hundreds of pounds of seeds from more than a thousand experiments of inbreeding this way with thousands of heirloom varietals.
I have never marketed any of it .
It has been an OCD hobby past time for 4 decades.

They get quite good when ripe here. We have two trees of Honeycrisp and they get eaten!

I was given a group of black raspberries and had never tried them before. ( I think they are Niwot)
I agree the fresh taste is…not great. They are however really good cooked.
I just treat them as an exclusively cooking/ jamming berry and am very happy to have them.
( my mother is a huge fresh raspberry fiend and even she won’t eat them fresh but loves the cooked products)
Black raspberry and haskap together make a primo jam but neither are worth eating raw.

Have not seen s Baker Creek catalog in a long time.
Usually start with an old heirloom varietal from Walmart, establish yeast symbiosis, then inbreed, while doing selection of short internode combined with longer fruit of higher quality.
Plant the best seed of the best fruits of the best plants.
Then establish yeast symbiosis, pollinate & repeat, over & over for a few generations.
No DNA testing or mathematical geneticist needed.
Use my personal assets.
Never tasted a mango seed that I liked.
You need to taste for what tastes similar to bread yeast or mycorrhizae.
If the roots taste like anthracnose or athletes foot or Aspergillus Niger or black wood mold then your symbiosis formula is off.
Needs to taste like brewers yeast!!!
Yeast need to be kept sugar starved to produce the 5 chemicals necessary for keeping the meristems & auxiliary node meristems & phloem lateral meristem DNA unwound & free of Methyl-CpG bonding to be able to upregulate the DNA !!!
This is cloning from the veins of the seed leaf of a mono-embryonic mango seed.
So I take it back, this mango seed tasted good when licked.


Cloning via yeast symbiosis without rooting hormones!
Yeast produce Cytokinins & gibberellins.

I think it was discussed on another thread that honeycrisp is very prone to location. Where it was bred in Minnesota and other places far north like Michigan it thrives and does well. My question is why grow it or even buy honeycrisp apples over the Fuji varieties when we are talking about sweetness or something like a pink lady apple for tartness. I and many other apple growers will flat out tell people in terms of growing apples there are far superior tasting apples like the spitzenberg apple if you want to grow a apple and don’t care about disease (honeycrisp is more disease prone than other apples). If you want a super sweet apple but want it earlier than other Fuji there is varieties like Beni Shogun. There is over 7000 known apples out there and I would not call honeycrisp a top apple for growing conditions or taste.

You have got to be some kind of an off the charts genius. I love what you’re doing , but I can barely understand it when I’m trying to read it. I am not going to try anything like that until I actually have some kind of confidence that I actually understand it. More power to you. Probably a lot of great advances in fruit growing have been made by the likes of you.

My knowledge is (hit/miss) on thousands of topics.
I combine knowledge from dozens of sources then do experiments on my deductions from what I read.
I have hundreds of pounds of seeds of new cultivar garden seeds never released.
I’m OCD, going from 1 experiment to another & never marketing anything.
The last few weeks my new obsession is Asimina triloba.
I have had over 4 dozen failed experiments since April 19th 2022.
61 days since I stated pawpaw research.
Getting close to resolving the cloning problem I believe.
My brain just functions differently.
