I have an older gentleman looking for green beans that he used to buy at a local hardware store and then online but now both places are no longer in business. He would like to find them again. He said they were the best green bean he had ever eaten.
He stated they were called " Giant Stringless" bush green beans. He stated they were about 7 to 8" long.
I was wondering is anyone else had heard of these? If so do you know where he can buy them? He has been looking for a few years for this variety without success. He had placed a letter in a local magazine and I though perhaps someone else had heard of these or has known of this variety.
Thank you for any help you can provide.
I remember hardware stores selling them but like giant tomatoes they did not say what they actually were. One of many examples at hardware stores is this variety http://www.johnnyseeds.com/vegetables/beans/bush-beans/jumbo-organic-bean-seed-11G.html
You are exactly right. So many hardware stores just had them either in tubs, bins, trash cans, containers, etc., with just the name above them. Who knows where they got them. He said he did find them online so I thought perhaps that may help jog someones memory. Lots of names got left off these items once they were put in the stores, either on purpose or by accident. I did make sure if it were a pole or bush bean variety. I had seen some long stringless green beans that were pole but he says they were a bush variety. This one has me stumped.
I thought pole beans at first to because the ones I bought were red colored pole beans that turned green when we cooked them. No one is really going to know but I suspect they are those I listed.
I will ask him more info and print this out for him to take a look at. You would almost have to grow them to see if they were the same. He wishes he would have saved some seeds to grow.
I was at my uncles house the other day, he used to grow lots of green beans but has aged and doesnt do as much gardening now, but he wanted to find the green beans he used to get at the store. He was very clear they were called ‘Giant Stringless Bush beans’. I am curios if you ever figured out where to get these.
No, sad to say I have never found where to find these. The guy that I was looking for stated he used to get them at the local hardware store in bulk. I wish I could find them for this guy as well as your uncle.
Sounds like heirloom snap beans. Not sure if bush or half-runner?

Hi, could this possibly be the one that you are searching for? (Giant Stringless Bush Bean)
That could be the one. It sounds like what the person described to me. He said it was the best green bean he had ever grown. He said they were tender even when they were full sized.
Thank you for the information. I just need to find a place that sells this variety.
It’s available in the UK from Heritage Seed Library:
