That’s a great point—thanks for bringing it up! So far, I’ve been using Daiougoumi as an isolated mother plant. This cultivar is not self-fertile.
In my collection, the cultivars I can confidently confirm as self-fertile are Sweet Scarlet, Gutsulska, and Cheriffic. We can definitely build a more complete list—please feel free to add any cultivars you know for certain are self-fertile.
Tillamook is, as far as I know, no one else near by has a goumi/AO
I got an email reply from Sylvatica Forest Farm regarding their Select Goumi scion wood.
“I did follow up on this but it lead to a dead end! All I know is they are super heavy producers of light red, jello/rhubarb textured berries about large olive sized. If you want, I can send you photos when they fruit in a month of so!”
They were also going crazy with my gooseberries

Hi, ich vertausche/kaufe immer Samen davon ab Juli. Edelreiser ab Januar. Goumi bewurzeln ist schwierig. Habe also keine Pflanzen zum abgeben. Sorry.

ah oke ich bekam letztes Jahr Stecklinge von dr szczepan und cherrific.. aber nach etwas Blättern fand ich raus, dass keine einzige anwuchs. Was ist dein Tipp um das etwas zu verbessern?

yeah, me too. Where do we Europeans get a possible Carmine bush? i like that they have big and quick harvesting fruits, that still taste good.
Maybe one nursery will offer grafted plants but I’m not 100% sure how much plants will be available.
It goes by 2 names, carmine and Tillamook are the same bush just as an fyi. Just 2 different names. So if you see Tillamook offered somewhere it’s also carmine.
Hardwood cuttings rarely work. Generally speaking, the best choice is semi-woody green summer cuttings in a misting chamber. However, Goumi is indeed very difficult to root, which is why I am grafting it instead. Air layering also works quite well.
As a side note, it seems that nobody has yet figured out how to propagate this species successfully in vitro.
Lubera is working on multiplying Daiougoumi. But they renamed it as always and are calling it ‘Cherrific Big’.

Ah, that’s super exciting. I haven’t seen the video just yet. But I devoured the post yesterday with great interest. Unfortunately, they don’t have any Daiougoumi for sale yet either… Kusi says they’re busy propagating new plants so they can bring them to market in the near future.
In Europe (Germany), hortensis.de seems to be the only source that will be offering them starting in August 2026. I’ve already emailed them, and he just said they don’t have time for shipping in the spring. —> Früchte und mehr ///
Ah, mega spannend. Habe das Video noch nicht gesehen. Aber habs mit Interesse verfolgt gestern. Leider haben auch sie noch keine Daiougoumi im Verkauf.. Kusi sagt, sie machen fleissig Neupflanzen, um sie dann in naher Zukunft auf den Markt zu bringen.

Sadly my 2 daiougoumi bought from hortensis last year both died in the winter, but the seeds from Austrian fruit nut are thriving. I got around 30 seedlings now and am very excited to see how they turn out
