Spent the morning digging a ditch on my driveway to keep all this rain out of my basement. Hope that works.
That sounds scary. When my wife woke me up she said there was a tornado warning for Bracken county, so not too far from you. Yeah it was much worse west of us, including you guys. Thankfully you didnât have any damage. Weâve had a lot of rain obviously and will continue to get more. Creeks are really up but not the highest Iâve seen, but if we continue to get these trains of storms that could change.
No roads today on the way home were covered, but there was evidence of lots of washouts. I think us in N KY will be okay tonight as far as severe storms are concerned, but flash flooding will be the worse issue.
After all this is done Sunday we have to worry about a couple of cold nights. So far theyâre saying itâs supposed to be around 28 here both nights, so I hope that will be the coldest it gets. My cherry, plum, pluots and one pear are or have bloomed, other pears and apples not yet so they can take somewhat colder weather.
Looks like the worst has passed. just gonna be wet, wet, wet.
The model shows snow here mid-week next week. Would move thru Chicago overnite wedsâŚmixing with snow at times. Just one of those springs.
When we get these really heavy rains, we usually get part of our driveway eroded away, and I have to regrade it with the tractor. Itâs mostly creek rock, a little gravel and just dirt. So until I can get a few ton of gravel laid down, itâs going to continue to wash out.
I used the tractor last week to bush hog off some areas that needed to be cleared of briars and other nuisance weeds before they start to green up. Glad I got done what I could because itâll take weeks for this to dry up. Plus I need to plow our garden plots.
Our driveway is gravel, still washes out. We need some drainage put in
Stu, why that area is called banana belt? Is it warm enough to grow bananas, or is it the weather crazy to drive everyone banana ?
No bananas that Iâm aware of, maybe in greenhouses ![]()
The Cities and immediate metro area are a fair bit warmer than the surrounding areas. Largely because of all the âhumanityâ I suppose, but I think geography plays a role as well.
For some reason, many people in that area seem to think they live in central MN.
Muddy everywhere with a drizzle that is supposed to last all day, cold too.
Ah. The spring weather, the rainy season, as what is normal after the abnormally dry period.
gotta love mud season as we call it here. usually, the month of Apr. our heavy clay sticks to everything. dogs drag it in. only dries out once the grass and trees start to grow/ leaf out sucking up the moisture. before paved roads travel was hell this time of year.
Also, the overnight freezes seem to keep the soil extra soft.
March-April are dry months where I live, but the mud is a lot worse than in our rainiest months (October-November, which are usually like 3x as wet).
I want to check next week and see how much rain the wettest spots got this week. Donât know how exceptional this is since Iâm not from that region, but seems like it will be an awful lot. Good luck over the next couple days.
The city we live in (downtown) had a historic flood in '54. Whole city was flooded. Flood level then was 41.1 feet. Itâs expected to reach 38.5 feet tomorrow afternoon.
Checking in from BC, we had a wet March, and April is looking pretty average so far. Canât wait for temps to get above 60 for the first time this weekend.
Paying attention to this thread for the past couple years has really made me appreciate the lack of extreme weather we have in the northwest. Well, except for wildfires I guess.
we had a few hot days in the 70s up to 80F but now itâs back to spring
Iâm itching to get things out and hardened off, the nights are just too cold still to be lazy about it though. just a few weeks to go I think.
Is it going down or coming up?
Doesnât Como Park have indoor gardens? I think we went there. Lots of bananas inside if i remember right. Place was packed.
Clouds and 50F again today.
I couldnât tell you whatâs down there. I avoid the Cities like the plague
Grid came back on after being out about 11 hours. Our solar battery was just about to switch off when the grid came back up. Using that to recharge them as more rain and storms are forecast over the next couple days. Weâve had some prodigious amounts of rain in the last 3 days, so the solar has been, um, a bit lackingâŚ
