How is your weather? (Part 2)

If you’re on the Licking River, you’re not that far from us in Lewis County. We’ve had some crazy amounts of water so far.

We live in what is essentially a bedroom community of the Twin Cities. I’ve never heard it called the banana belt in all the many years we have lived here.

We got rain too… Not as much as you guys but much more that we’ve had most of the year. I wouldn’t mind trading for a while.

This was at the height of the storm:

My house is on a hill thankfully, but whoever graded the land when they built the house thought it would be a good idea to have the whole front yard try to drain into the walkout garage rather than continue 20 feet downhill into the valley behind the house

Gotta love basements. We built a crawlspace for that very reason. Falmouth is flooding for the first time since 1997.

We had some water in our basement, but it drains out.

I’m only 2 hours away but rarely ever go up there. If you do a lot of flying you almost have to fly out of MSP to get anywhere but at least the airport is pretty easy to get to if you come in on 52. La Crosse airport is down to 1 flight a day and that goes to Chicago. Amtrak has daily service to MSP from La Crosse that maybe someday i’ll try. My niece lives in Chicago and has taken that a few times to come back.

Sunshine and 50F today. Still waiting on that shorts weather.

My wife and I have decided that we’re either flying out of St. Cloud or Fargo, or we’re not flying. We will not spend any dollars in the metro unless there is some unforeseen emergency.

I will admit that MSP is much more pleasant than O’hare or ATL

Northern Kentucky weather in a nutshell right now.

I almost posted a picture of it pouring here titled “imagine this on repeat for 4 days”.

Everything is blooming but we are getting a late frost in 2 days. I can bring containers into the garage, for others, will a covers make a difference? Weather report says 31, but that will likely mean around 25-27 for an hour or two here based on what my thermometers said in March.

My cots have started to bloom, esp the aprium, and it’s supposed to hit 24 Monday overnite.

I was going to say the same. Apricots are doomed this year again

We had 3.5 inches in the rain gauge when I emptied it Friday evening which was over the 24 hours prior. This morning (Sunday) there was about 4 inches of rainwater in the rain gauge. Last Sunday we got 3 inches plus storms and tornadoes and it has rained some almost every day. I think we have had our share of rain.
U.S. Highway 150, a large main thoroughfare through our county, has been closed due to water over the road near Palmyra, Indiana. Many other smaller roads are flooded.
I heard on the news this morning that Thunder over Louisville on the Ohio River has been canceled. It is a huge fireworks display plus other attractions that kicks off the two weeks of Kentucky Derby festivities. Apparently the great lawn near the river is flooded and while the waters will recede by then, it will still be covered with huge amounts of debris and mud.
However, that pales in comparison to the many people who have flooded homes. More tragically, I heard that a 9 year old boy in Kentucky was swept away by high waters near a culvert, I believe, while walking to the school bus stop. Flood waters are all over the Midwest and the South and tornadoes have taken quite a few lives and homes also. People need our prayers!
On a smaller and much less important note, my little pond is up out of its banks. The white big rock in the water is usually about 5 feet from the bank.

My Romeo and Juliet bush cherries located behind the fence in the photo below are in full bloom and my pear located right next to them is in partial bloom. It appears we are looking at 25 degrees Tuesday morning. So I don’t know if any blooms will survive to produce fruit or not. Not even sure if they have been pollinated due to all the rain and wind.

At any rate, I was reminded at church this morning that we complained all last summer about the drought, so we need to be grateful for the rains now filling our lakes, streams, rivers and reservoirs.
