love me a good bonfire!
This was the best picture of the day.
My wife and granddaughter visited me while tending the brush fire… my wife got a picture Pop and Hallie appreciating some wild flowers. Common yellow wood sorrel.

I can feel the radiant heat from here!
When I was a kid we’d save up the raked pine needles, cleared brush, and garbage wood from the property all year and have a huge bonfire in winter. Pretty fun standing around 30 foot flames on a dark snowy night.
she’s about my grand daughters age. priceless!
Did you jump through the flames?
No… I did not. Too far and high to jump.
Just getting close enough to it to push it to the center with a rake… I could only stay a few seconds. Felt like I was getting cooked.

We can’t burn now, with a major drought going on, but today was the first windless day in some time. It was nice. I was able to get some work done on my barn.
70’s-80’s and still intermittent showers! Getting hot!
Been so hot and I’m desperate for some rain. The avocados and figs droop every day unless I water them heavily. Ideally I’d love a 10 minute shower every morning so I wouldn’t have to water my hundreds of pots. At least everything in ground is on an emitter so it takes the work out of it, don’t think I could logistically set up irrigations on all my pots due to the sheer amount and not constant positioning of them. Slight chance of rain tomorrow and Saturday so that means no rain those days but Sunday looks promising.
It has certainly been a windy spring!
I am in the same boat as you. Hasn’t rained at all since early April, no measurable rain since mid-March. I use a sprinkler for my potted plants, only feasible way without constant hand-watering. High 80s/low 90s for the foreseeable future with a low chance of rain Saturday-Monday. Unlike last year though there is moisture in the air, so heavy morning dew everyday. Hopefully if the temps get into the mid-90s it starts afternoon showers.
it’s 82F today
I’m planting a lot out today and tomorrow. Sunday I’m doing my free garden stuff table, after that I work, but then weds I have off and I think everything goes out.
I’m sick of shuffling and waiting. there’s only one possibly cool night after that (Thurs night be cold for things like melons and cukes). my compost thermometer says the soil is 50F in sunny spots so I’ll put warm weather stuff there.
Frost likely tonight. Maybe the last of the spring? Still 2 weeks to go before the average last frost
Weather was amazing today.
Could use some water, really could use some water water. But, hard to complain about a beautiful day!
was 28 night before last. not likely the last one here either. last frost is mid June here but in the last 3 yrs. we’ve been lucky.
30 here now, the ground is white with frost.
Back when I planted buckwheat foodplots in central WI, I learned to wait until after Memorial Day to plant the stuff. 32 and its toast. I lost apple crops there a number of times as well.
With the long winters/late springs here, I haven’t lost an apple or pear crop (yet, knock on wood)
Mid May is the avg last here, but we may get lucky this year. I see nothing in the long range that is threatening 32° and the last so far was 4/27. Definitely a different world north of the Whites and up by you though…especially if you’re in a relatively low sheltered location.
I remember a couple decades ago when HIE airport hit 31° in July 2001. No thank you.
Stuck in the low 50Fs for a few days now. Not much temp change because of drizzle/rain/clouds. Should warm today into the 60Fs and back into the 70Fs tomorrow/next week. Next chance of rain doesn’t look until mid month. Nice dry stretch.
Looks warm in the plains.
its been a cold, wet spring here as well. we only made it to 60 3xs so far. 70 1x.
More of a summer pattern setting up around here. Should be 70F or better from now until next weekend. I planted peppers yesterday and will do the tomatoes today.
