Much more typical July than the last couple of few years. Hot with afternoon thunder showers. The last couple of years it was just hot with no rain. I am anticipating a typical August very hot no rain.
Wet month across a lot of the midwest. Many areas had 10+ inches for July. Lots of lawn mowing this summer.
On Wednesday we experienced the most intense rain that our neighbors who have lived here over 40 years say they had ever seen.

Our driveway crosses a creek twice with ~24" tiles easily able to carry it’s volume most of the time. In a hard rain event those tiles sometimes get clogged up with sticks/branches/leaves washed down from upstream. This time though they were completely covered by rocks, some of them fairly good sized.
At least my orchard area is 10’+ higher in elevation so suffered no damage ![]()
dry and sunny in the low 80’s in the 7 day. great fruit ripening weather. maybe now the grass will stop growing so much.
Back in Uzès, France, climbing into the high nineties again! Very oppressive.
That’s a dry climate, non?
Humidity creeping back up. Heat back on the way. We’ve finally dried out some. Rain maybe tomorrow and even more likely Sunday. Extended looks warm. Ragweed should be showing up anytime.
I’ve been fighting ragweed in foodplots for weeks
it keeps saying it’ll rain every week but it’s only happened once and then barely. I’ll have to water tomorrow night i bet, it was saying rain today until just now when I checked.
at least it isn’t boiling hot this August so far. 80s mostly. the few cool nights are a bit early.
It usually peaks mid/late August. Rain helps keep the pollen out of the air. Dewpoint touching 70F. The heat is back. Strong storms Sat?
My brother is pulling a 24’ pontoon to Sioux Narrows (on Lake of the Woods) this weekend from La Crosse. I said i94 should be a blast and going thru Duluth could be interesting.
Ragweed pollen will be peaking here soon too. I already need to use daily allergy pills and Patanase eye drops.
Low chance of storms tonight, a bit higher tomorrow night. We got 1.25" on Tuesday night. We weren’t “too dry” but we were needing a bit of rain so it was welcome. I need another few tenths in the next couple days so my top dressed urea soaks into some brassica plots.
Current dewpoint = 72
The Canadian wildfire smoke has made it to VA. It was smoky out this morning and I thought surely it was a local fire… but apparently a high pressure system will keep VA smelling like a campfire through the weekend.
we had that last week. it was so bad i woke several times in the night thinking there was a fire in the house. was great for my asthma. ![]()
Got .5" in a hurry this morning. My top dressed fertilizer should be good to go. Chance of more rain and severe stuff tonight. Rain is fine. Severe stuff not so much.
Yeah the forecast is all over the place for weather this weekend. Here they said strong storms tomorrow afternoon, now it might be some in the morning/weaker storms late. Sunday might even be in play for more storms. Lot of storms this summer. I’m kind of done with it. How about a nice light all day rain and temp in the low 60Fs ![]()
Dewpoint 73F currently. Gross.
what do you fertilize this late in the season? right now im just fert. my watermelons
Turnip, collard, rutabaga foodplot for deer.
I’ll pull a few bulbs for pastys in October
Hooray for pasties! They are much better with rutabagas as well as potatoes for sure. Take some time to make though… Like perogies… 64 this morning 90 for a high today humid is all get out.
Taters are definitely required. Rutabaga is great, but I don’t need much turnip.
When I lived north of Madison, WI I used to get pastys from Mile’s Teddywedgers in Madison. Fantastic. I believe he was a Cornishman. The last time I stopped was maybe 10 years ago. New owners, not Cornish, sucked
