How is your weather? (Part 2)

We have some good pasty shops around, and then some terrible Pasty shops. They are definitely not all created equal for sure. We made some dessert pasties out of raspberries we grew once, served with ice cream. Man were those ever good.

A pasty place in the UP showed up on my FB a week ago or so. Algorithms are weird. At any rate, they have their homemade pasty recipe pegged at the top of their feed. I’ll be trying it this fall. Yoopers make some awesome pastys

If you are ever U.P. this way, check out Krupp’s Mini Mart in Twin Lakes. Really good.

@smsmith & @EliindaUP: is that what we call Pusties here in the east (aka pasticciotti). I haven’t had a savory one, here they’re mostly vanilla or chocolate custard (if we’re even talking about the same thing).

Afraid it is not the same. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasty&ved=2ahUKEwjysfSvs_yOAxV8g4kEHf_GDEMQFnoECAsQAQ&usg=AOvVaw0OioHenlJWWXDQGaz40JTD

Pastys are a pretty localized meat pie I think. The UP of MI appears to be “pasty central” now. Back in the 70s, 80s, 90s pastys were more widespread through WI, southern MN, and MI. They were miner food. Meat, veggies, and starches in an easy to eat (no hand washing required) form. I’d guess Appalachia has something very similar with another name

Radar is lit up like a Christmas tree this morning. Heavy rain. Severe weather looks to be a cancel, but the day looks pretty soggy and very humid. Not much cool air behind this front (or any). Maybe a drop off in dewpoints. August marches on.

I was talking to my nephew yesterday who is fishing on lake of the woods. Sounds like the lake has been taken over by smallmouth bass. You’ll catch 1 walleye and proceed to catch 50 smallmouth.

Massive amount of rain near Milwaukee. Flooding.

My sister north of Omaha, NE had what they think were 100mph winds. Pretty much destroyed a campground early yesterday morning. Had some pics on Facebook.

Can you keep the small mouth and eat them? Don’t think I have ever eaten a small mouth plenty of small 10 inch large mouth bass. Really my favorite to eat I cook them in the air fryer easy.

I think people will but not sure it is common. I know Lake of the Woods has a good crappie fishery so that is what i’d go target for eating. Small mouth are fun to catch==they put up an excellent fight and love to jump. They coexist with walleyes just fine here in the Mississippi River watershed//not sure on the lakes/rivers way up north.

It is hot with no rain. The thunder showers have been going all around me. Tough on the Orchard but good for the fishing.
I appreciate your fishing comment that sent me grabbing a fishing pole.
Got a real nice blue gill and a couple bass pretty quickly.

We broke our heat record twice this week. I think we got 107 and previous record was 103. But today is beautiful, nice and cool. Not a lot of rain but a light drizzle right now.
It’s wonderful.

Thick smoke covering both N and South Dakota right now. Should move east over this area the next few days.

Still hot and humid. Drier air is still up in N Minnesota.

We were supposed to get some of that, but it piffled away to nothing.
