How is your weather? (Part 2)

The threadex site gives you the top 3 extremes for all of the major US airport climo sites. It’s my go-to for quick referencing.

Sometimes the numbers are fudged. I believe it was 1996, it hit 103 in and around Raleigh mid June. Greg Fishel, the chief meteorologist at WRAL channel 5 declared it was statistically impossible for this to happen during the weather program, and the RDU station monitor must have had a sensor issue. Welp, I had a thermometer on the north side of the house in the shade and it read well over 100 for two consecutive days and it generally read the same as the station at RDU. That extreme weather event and what should had been a documented record is scratched.

The thermometer at my house hit 96 yesterday. I rode around town and temps were between 93-97 every where I drove.

I like investigating this stuff. Closest thing to 100° I see at RDU in 6/96 is 99° on the 24th. That sound right? I can look up the raw observations to see what was reported.

I do recall a day in the 2000s where RDU only reported hourly readings of 100° but they snuck in a 103° between observations. A friend meteorologist of mine down there was a little suspicious of it.

edit…I see nothing suspicious in the data for that dare

I have a Weatherflow Tempest home weather station and it was at least close to the high recorded at the airport:

Where we’re at is somewhat of a micro-climate, we’re almost always a bit colder than the official temp.. But that low on the 15th, surprisingly it was a bit higher here:

That is usually not the case..

Someone might want to ask TWC to reboot their forecasting machines?

57F and clouds today. 30Fs right now just north of MN border in Ontario. Doesn’t look like any clearing is going to happen today. Lots of Florida plates around town the last week. They are back.

…and the native Floridians couldn’t be happier

We lose the college kids now (UW-L graduated this past weekend) but you really don’t notice it. I’m sure some stay around.

I went the whole winter not getting sick and now i have a horrible cold. Ugh. I thought i was in the clear.

Sun should come back tomorrow. Warm again this weekend.

31 right now. Not sure what the low was. Time will tell what impact it had on fruit set.

Got down to 28 here, but not for very long I think. Supposed to be cold here again tonight and then warmer after that.

The nights are so short that it probably didn’t stay there for long.

The 8-14 shows possible record heat for N Minnesota.

Light frost this morning, it’d be nice if that was the last one.

Windy every day.

Heavy frost here. Supposedly down to 25 in the fields. Looks like one more night of light frost, then I think we are done, unless we get a bonus one in June which we do about every other year.

32F forecast for tonight, I have a lot of blooms in the orchard right now. Only one night in the 30’s forecast now, it was two a few days ago.

Did a check around. Stone fruit blossoms look good. Arctic kiwis took it on the chin, but the Hardies weren’t far enough along to be zapped. Grafted Ashworth Bur Oak took some damage, but it will be okay there’s still some good growth that’s fine. Thankfully, the Arctic kiwis are pretty well established now and have reserve buds; it is just business as usual with them.

I talked to my brother in International Falls this morning and he says it’s still like winter up there. The trees are just starting to wake up. The weather looks nice right thru next week so i’m sure it’ll green it very quickly. Also mentioned premium gas was a buck a gallon cheaper. I told him he should have brought his gas cans!

60Fs again today…40Fs tonite.

MOS is 26° at HUL tonight…even 33° at FVE and we know they don’t radiate well. Lots of MU20s in the sheltered valleys of northern New England tonight. We should be safe…lots of mid level clouds to start the evening, but I can see the sharp clearing line to the north.
