Most favorite.

Only one that has bloomed, but it is okay as most came back from bits chopped up by landscapers who removed everything. I wound up with a lot of peonies growing babies too.

Almost ready for pods harvesting.

That’s amazing the number of pods you’re able to set on a plant. Only a small fraction of those flowers I pollinate manage to set a pod. Is there some trick you’re willing to share?

I think just lucky. Actually try to pollinate on flowers not too new, on the second day of bloom is perfect. And pollen parents must be look very good with soft pollen powder. Choose on the day not too hot or wet, using fresh pollen on the day you pollinate. That’s all but it’s not always has all that good condition. Good luck try again next year Daren( make sure to watch video on YouTube shows you how to do).below picture of pollen ready to work with.

I also tried to create variegated Iris with flowers different colors than simple purple.

Do you cover flowers that you intend to pollinate, so that you know you pollinated them and not an insect? I’ve had some pods on irises before but never messed with them. When and how do you harvest, and what are the steps after that?

I just cleaned flowers like in pictures after pollinating. you can wear pods parents name tags for them if you like. I do hundreds of them so don’t have time.
Harvesting when they dried out or turning brown, dry them more with natural sun light then collect the seeds. You have to seedling outside before Winter for germination. Will have flowers on beginning of 3rd year of planting.

That’s a lot of pods/seeds Vincent! What will you do with so many?
I only have 11 pods to contend with and already, I’m scratching my head wondering where I’ll plant the potential hundred plus plants that they’ll become.
