Jujube R5 and R4T3 infos?

My translator picked this up and translated to English as below

Hello, I write in Bulgarian, because my English language is quite weak. I am the owner of Exotic Plants Bulgaria. I read that here is my nursery and my name commented here, as there is a man with no nothingfail, who in several posts tried to dethrone me with lies and assumptions. This is his problem, at least I am interested in his opinion, I have no honor to know him and I do not want contact with such people of course. To all other plant lovers I wish you were healthy and enjoyed your hobby for a long time. Now specifically about the ziziphus and its varieties - varieties. In the nursery, we have 12 different varieties, mainly producing 7 specific varieties of LI, LANG, R5, Sugar Cane, Ju Tao Dzao, R4T3 and Tiger tooths. This year we will release a new variety for Europe, Korean 1, a very sweet variety, which when green is still sour. We produce every year several thousand trees, of which over 70% are exported to the European Union, we have been selling exclusively and exclusively for the last few years, and I apologize for not responding to retail orders. Now you can rely on the fact that each of you who wants to buy at retail will be sent to the plants. We serve absolutely all countries of the European Union, including the United Kingdom. I wish you health and many successes. 1

here’s a few r4t3, a bit late due to our long winter. They look like little dutch clogs

All my R4T3 from a graft last year has dropped all its fruitlets this year same as last year!!

hopefully the budwood has at least grown/thickened considerably. Ours weren’t particularly precocious either. A r4t3 fruit picked in the right conditions attained 30+ brix, if remember it right. It is similar to turkish(aka priest) in sweetness and flavor. Priest has denser flesh, while that of r4t3 has a light crisp, like hj

The graft has grown well this year. Not as much as Coco but it’s probably 18-24” and thick. Both on Lang. R4T3 had several fruitlets and one attained size to show shape well and then turned yellow. No fruitlets on Coco. Li graft on Lang has several fruit.

Can you compare the size, shape, texture, sweetness, productive, taste between Massandra Vs priest?

i personally like priest better than massandra, but my assessment might not be accurate, since only had massandra ~2 yrs.

bought ‘massandra’ from ogw much earlier than that, but the fruits were shaped like sc, so that set me back additional years of waiting :frowning:

having obtained, >60 cultivars, have to say juju identity is contingent to whether or not the person labeling the specimens was drinking red bull.

or had vodka on-board, lol

anyway, going back to priest, got to hand it to them Turkish folks, they are probably the most underrated fruit-growers and fruit breeders. Jujus aren’t the only species they’ve dabbled in, but as many already are aware, apricots, cherries, and from what have seen online, they are even growing bananas!

forgot to add though, priest, massandra, and r4t3 fruit development seem to be sensitive to our torrid summers, so best to delay their fruiting if growing them in desert areas, say, those desertsin cali, az, nm, and tx, apart from nv.

jujus bear fruits on same-year’s growth, so removing all their fruits in early summer will usually coax them to bear more fruits in late summer or early autumn.

Wow thats super interesting Raf!!! Sounds like Priest and r4t3 are must haves!!! Do you think they may do better in a cooler region like here in kansas than in your southwestern heat?

:joy::joy: interesting thoughts for mislabeled plants :slightly_smiling_face:

@jujubemulberry, I grow Norris #1 and R4T3, and both are fruiting for the first time this year. I was curious if you have any theories about which of the trees on @KYnuttrees list might be Norris #1, since you determined it isn’t R4T3. The fruit have a similar shape, with R4T3 perhaps a bit more pointed. Was flavor the main difference between the two for you?

Here is my Norris #1:

And here is my R4T3:

@ncdabbler
I really can not commit much as I do not have the Norris # 1 I have made several attempts to purchase the selection and HSN will not sell us one SO to stop the confusion I have up loaded the 6 year long study That I did on the planting from the Norris river damn project that was planted in 1932 thru the TVA project

This in formation has been published and is on file for the public to see and is not copy written So I hope this helps but the ones you have look the same to be but there is a row 7 trees that I suspect is the same as the R4T3

Enjoy
