In order to combat PC and other plagues on my trees this year. I invested in a new sprayer. I had wanted a backpack battery powered unit but I wasn’t happy with the prices or buying a battery other then the same I am using for my other eq.
I ended up getting a Ironton ATV Spot Sprayer - 8-Gallon Capacity, 1 GPM, 12 Volt for $79 but its now down to $59.
Nice setup Carroll. I was faced with exactly the same dilemma and opted for the ATV sprayer just like you did. I just wheel it around in my Gorilla Cart. I did get a voltage regulator and a couple of Makita battery bases so I can run it off of my existing Makita batteries. Been running it for a year now. Works like a dream.
@SpokanePeach setup is genious if your already invested in battery packs. If you however if your not you can go full DIY and get all the parts separately.
This is my GreenWorks pack that recently stopped working.
Disclaimer, I have not completed one of these projects, Yet. But my Wife used to work for Dewalt on the motor signal processing stuff, Masters Electrical Engineer so I have an excellent consultant to call.
what does she charge to rebuild battery packs? Honestly it would be super nice if the govt would step in and standardize battery packs, kinda like the EU did with cell phone chargers. Proprietary packs are just used to screw consumers and totally unnecessary IMO.
Chargers’ connectors are one thing but packs are wholly another. 18650 Lithium-ion cells are standard. The chemistries used all give a nominal voltage of around 3.7v You cannot make a Li-ion battery that does 1.5V like an AA cell. Of the chemistries used in 18650’s some are as low as 3.6V others 3.85V and you need to charge them between 4V and 4.7V. All of these have charge controllers that intelligently handle this but if your tuning your equipment for optimal performance you are going to control that not just accept someone’s standard.
The other thing about a standard pack would be who’s responsible. Tools damaged the pack maker claims the tool was outside spec. The tool maker says the pack was out of spec.
Regarding the misses. She has very specific requirements. Disney cruise preferably during December.
oh I understand standardized packs couldnt be backwards compatible, but like we now have AA, AAA, c, d 9v, no reason we could have standardized 12v packs with universal connectors, 18v, 24v, 40v, whatever going forward. It would require some adaptation no doubt, and manufacturers would throw a fit.
That’s the confusion. Cells->Modules->Packs. The cells are standardized like AA’s, The modules are relatively standard. The circled module would would be a direct replacement for the module in my greenworks pack
I need to get an 8+ gallon sprayer to put in my cart that I pull behind my lawn tractor. I’d like to get one that all I do is charge the battery and spray. I see what everyone had done to modify these sprayers. Very nice modifications. I would prefer one ready to go with just being charged up.
I will start looking for one since this post has spurred my need to get one. Right now I am using 2 gallon hand pump sprayers- 3 to 4 fill ups. That gets tiresome at the end of the day AND a hot day as well.
I do not think anyone has an all in one unit yet. Vendors offer the tanks in a great deal of sizes the all basicly run off your ATV or tractor battery 12V battery .
Mine came with 12V clips like these with an SEA connector
I’m at the same junction, using a 2gl pump, with extenda wand bent to spray undersides of leaves too. Good work out for left biceps. Dont have an atv, plants are small so I do individual sprays. No blaster needed yet. May opt for a 4 gal backpack sprayer… next year
Nice for small apps:) I have (13) 1150’ rows and (9) 900’ rows. I like the thought of an atv with a tank but am budget restricted for the year. Eventually …
you have to get gallons of liquid out the field regardless. Either you put the tank on your bank and walk it several times, you put a bucket in the cart and refill the backpack sprayer in the field. Or you put the tank in the cart and pull the cart. If your rows are full of wood chips maybe go for a gorilla cart
I purchased the sprayer at the link below in spring 2023, and have been using it for about a year and half now. It is excellent for my quarter acre orchard. It takes me about 12 gallons to cover the 65 trees that I spray (I don’t spray figs or persimmons). One charge of the battery is enough for at least two rounds of spraying. I am very satisfied with it.
It came with a nozzle that is designed for power washing, so I purchased a much better (produces much finer mist, so allows me to use less spray) nozzle and adapter (links below).
