Peaches 2025

I didnt see a thread for 2025 Peaches. Our rich may (flavorich) are about midway through tree ripening. My granddaughters got to split the first ripe tree fall. They said 10 :+1::+1:

I plan to run them through the kitchen aid so my wife can make preserves and skins and pits jelly.

First rich may / flavorich tree harvested this morning. Good and clean, I seen one peach with a patch of scab and a couple with bird peck, no insect damage or brown rot on any.

My wife bought it as a #5 potted from the farm store and I planted it 3 years ago. I think this is pretty good for a learner (me) and for being in the ground for 3 years, so i’m happy with the results.

How do your peaches ripen so early?? My strawberries are just finishing and cherries are just starting.

It’s the variety, one of the earliest hence the name (rich May)

Rich may is one of the earliest to ripen.

That sounds like a appealing variety! Only problem is that I can’t seem to store peach scions at all, either by the time I go to graft they have rotted or dried out in the same bag same thing for 3 years in a row.

Despite zones which only mean how cold a place can get, some people have over 180 growing days :sob: so their season starts so much sooner. My strawberry season started about 2 weeks ago but I’m about to set out snap traps because I’m tired and the mice have figured it out

I store scions in a dedicated mini fridge. Remind me next grafting season and i’ll send you some vegetative only budded scions. And please dont think you are being rude reminding me either. I have a lot of irons in the fire almost all the time and only so much storage space between my ears. I actually appricate a reminder.

Okay, I’ll see if I can remember myself and see if I have anything that may interest you.

Leaves are very nice  I’m still trying to get my soil straightened out.

We have our jam and jelly canned for the year. Feels good to do so and from just one rich may peach tree. Hoping for canned peach halves and cobbler and eating out of hand eating from our other later ripening peach trees.

I can’t help but wonder what varieties of peaches our local orchard is growing?

I would like a variety that ripens about now and inbetween rich may which ripened 3 weeks ago and redhaven. I was looking at june gold. Can anyone comment on june gold?

Thanks

When does your RedHaven typically ripen? By calling Flamm’s your local orchard, I suspect you are about an hour south of me. My Red Haven fruited for the first time this year and I had about 8 peaches ripen about a week ago. So either StarkBros sent me the wrong variety or maybe it was just a fluke that it ripened early.

June gold and harrow diamond are two good options for that ripening window, if I recall correctly Alan quite likes harrow diamond

Might not be representative, tree only had a few fruit last year… and again this year. Last year though my June Gold ripened first of August. Perhaps it’s name was attributed by someone a few zones higher/warmer than me

I thought that’s when they were supposed to ripen. I guess I’ll see what it does next year.
