Sounds like you’re having a great time in your garden and orchard, Mamuang. Have you used any fish emulsion for your roses. It was very pleasant surprise to me when I poured some on my roses between regularly scheduled fertilizing and they really responded to it. More buds, more blossoms. Had to spray some liquid fence on to keep the deer away; we got a lot of great cuttings. My wife even entered some in a photo contest.

Fish emulsion is expensive 
. I have used it for other things but not roses, usually to push growth as it’s high in nitrogen.
There is an annual rose show/display at a local botanic garden. It is amazing.

I visited the International Rose Garden in Portland Oregon about 14 years ago. It is amazing to see acres of roses in full bloom.

Came home from a trip today to see my ramblin’ red climbing rose in full bloom. Planted it 2 years ago and it’s really taken off this year.

Pretty. I saw that you have a nice trellis. Where are you in upstate NY? I just found out about this privately-owned rose garden in Ithaca NY. He specializes in ramblers. I wish his garden is closer to me. It’s about 5 hours away. This is the time to visit.

I’m in the mid Hudson valley. Ithaca is 3 hours away, I’ve never been but heard the region is nice so maybe I’ll head out there some time.
Regarding the trellis, I like how the roses are filling it out. My plan was to put roses both sides and have them meet at the top. On the other side is a new dawn, which is nice though grows a bit more out than up compared to ramblin red. It was a cheap trellis (under 100 if I remember correctly) and is rusting quite a lot at its base. When I move I’ll make sure to spend more and get a higher quality one that will last for years.

The Finger Lake Area is very nice. A lot of beautiful state parks, lakes, waterfalls, gorges, etc. My daughter attended a college in Ithaca. We enjoyed the area’s natural beauty.

Thanks for the recommendations. I either take flights to the opposite coast or just stay local. But so much in between. The other place I may want to go to is Acadia national park. But it’s definitely a trek.

Watkins Glen State Park is an incredible hike. The finger lakes in general is amazing!

This Harison’s was on the property when we bought it. It receives no water or care, but blooms reliably. They were my grandmother’s favorite - probably because they were the only thing that would grow in Dell, Montana…

What is your most fragrant rose that resists black spot in a humid climate?
I love roses - my wife chooses the varieties, I do the maintenance, except for the skilled pruning / training for the climbing varieties. Here are some of ours:

The David Austin roses we have smell amazing – the Poet’s Wife is probably the most fragrant, but the Roald Dahl is also very aromatic. The least fragrant is probably the James Austin, but it is still more fragrant than many other varieties and it has a very fruit-like smell. We are north of Seattle and black spot can be a major problem. Most people’s roses are nearly defoliated by late summer. I spray propiconazole during leaf-out, but also try to spray mancozeb at least once to rotate fungicide classes. It seems to work pretty well as year after year the leaves of our roses tend to be lush and healthy.

Beautiful roses. I wanted to order Princess Alexandra of Kent but changed my mind to Olivia. Unfortunately, Olivia is out of stock at DA website.
My friend wants Charles Darwin but your Poet’s wife looks more attarctive.

Are Olivia and Poet’s wife compact bushes? I-don’t have big space and don’t want large bushes.
My best all-around rose out of 50 I have for my wife is Bliss Parfuma. It’s proven in our area.

Compact - we have two Olivia’s and one is in a pot where it is thriving. The bush is a couple years old and I’d say it is about 3x3x3 feet. The Poet’s Wife is a bit bigger. My wife does all the pruning & deadheading and I would need to ask about size maintenance - will get back to you on that. Both are gorgeous (Edit: queried the expert and she said the Olivia can be kept compact but if you over-prune you will get a lot of green growth next year. She recommended the “Desdemona” by DA for a more naturally compact growth.)
