Me and TNHunter keeping this thread popping

Olympian, LSU O’Rourke, and one LSU Strawberry. O’Rourke had sat on the counter for a day and I think benefitted from that as it was much more ripe and sweeter than the just picked Olympian. LSU Strawberry took the crown tonight, one of the best figs I’ve had this year. Absolutely lived up to it’s name with lots of light berry flavor, a touch of acidity, plenty of sweetness, and a definite “peak ripeness a day before going over ripe” strawberry flavor.

LSU Purple coloring up and ready to go in the next few days. My VdB and Alma have lots of figs on them but have really slowed down and might not ripen anything for a few weeks.

Late October into early November is peak fig season for the PNW.

I had one the size of my pinky this year  it came from my random Etsy fig tree. I ate it and forgot to take a photo. That’s my harvest this year aside from a bunch of random fallen, unripe celeste

A bit of both. If I like a fig, I keep a potted version and an in ground version.

Lucky you! We’re frosted and the fig leaves are starting to fall. Interestingly enough, there are still a couple figs on the leafless I-258 that continue to ripen.

@jcguarneri … I think it was 2020 that we got our first hard frost on Dec. 3. I harvested figs and raspberries up to that date.

That is as late as I can ever remember our first hard frost being.

Normally… it happens sometime early to mid November.

Another straggler coming in . One more left on the tree. I-258. Definitely not sweetening up properly, but the taste and texture are still good.

Thanks, that makes sense. You’re one of the closest growers to me with an extensive collection, so thanks for posting what works for you. Gives me good ideas of what I ought to have in my collection.

Last ripening figs are here before the end of season.

First Exquisito from a graft. Nice berry and fruity flavors.

@GraftNseedcollector your profile says zone 5, is that the old zoning system? The trunk on that fig doesn’t look like something growing in zone 5, nor does the mimosa tree behind it.

Ohhh, those are good photos of a lovely fig. What kind of camera?

Was literally going to ask the same question. Part of me still wants to hope that having an in-ground fig in my zone is possible. But their photos look more like the west coast.

Thanks, I am using my phone camera. It is several generations old.
