I think black ice should have red flesh? I had one but it died.

Black Ice does have rich red flesh. This looks similar in size and shape to Black Ice, but it’s some different variety.
I grew Alderman and Superior in the past. Alderman was big/with dark skin and Superior was heart shaped with a more pink skin==from what i remember. Superior will split though so you have to watch them. They are excellent to eat.
My cherry tomato in the greenhouse. Nicotiana are growing in there along with some cucumbers. There was a hummingbird in there yesterday but he got out the roof vent.

Question: Is Bacterial Canker a problem for plums in Minnesota?
The longwinded background:
A local elderly experienced gardener told me her Montmorency Cherry trees all died after 10 years because of some disease. Based on these forums availability bias could suggest Bacterial Canker.
I’m planting plums on a 10 to 12 foot spacing in a backyard orchard.
Should I follow that Stefan Sobkowiak permaculture suggestion of alternating trees so two of the same kind aren’t side by side?
definitely not black ice. mines nearly black skinned. theyre just starting to color up.

Not plums, but my sweet cherry that was pushing close to 10 years old had some sort of canker thing going on/the trunk was cracking badly i think just from the cold winters. I finally just cut it down because the fruit was always getting attacked by brown rot and birds. I have a new Lapins tree because in good years i could get very nice sweet cherries and the blooms were extremely cold hardy–that thing bloomed after a winter that dipped to -33F. I have a few pluot trees from seed but no fruit this year (they did bloom, but the fruit all dropped).

Cleaned up our garlic bulbs today. If a bulb measures larger than 3.5" diameter we keep it for seed garlic. The bulbs closest in the photo are all seed garlic.

Grabbed a few Melba this morning. Pretty good for a summer apple.
Edit..grabbed a couple Zestars a bit ago. Seeds are brown, but another week on the tree will serve them well.

I was making soup and i picked a few carrots. Some of them were huge. I’m surprised because i didn’t water them much after July. I think more regular watering–those that got space got huge. Some were much shorter for some reason. I grew them in mostly pure sand from menards (just play sand) filling a 55 gallon container. They pull out so easily that way. Will do again.

Romeo sour cherries, a welcome surprise. I figured SWD would have destroyed all of these, but it appears our heat and drought killed them off, allowing some of my later cherry varieties to survive.

Fall raspberries (Caroline) are ripening. I picked a handful this afternoon. That rain we got the other day helped. Voles are eating some of my tomatoes. The wild cat that wanders the neighborhood is not doing its job.

There werent enough on the trees to bother with a major harvest, ive just been picking a handful or two every time Im near the tree.

I’m going to pick my few remaining Galas today - at least a week early, but the seeds are brown and the squirrels are into them. Baffles don’t work at this stage when the branches bend so low the varmints can just jump up.
Caroline raspberries are pumping out a ton of berries. The summer crop was pretty meh but these fall ones are much better. We picked a bunch of them this weekend. Some of the canes are going to snap they have some many fruit on them. Some canes have flowers while others have ripe berries.

I picked about 6 gallons of Zestar today. About half got washed and put in the crisper. The rest got washed and frozen for cider pressing later in the fall. There’s about 2x that amount still hanging. I’ll need to add 4’ to my pole picker to reach them.

You’re about a week ahead of me. My Chestnuts and Zestars aren’t quite ripe yet. Just got done picking Norlands and yellow transparents yesterday. Pristine’s are just starting to ripen.
