I like most fruit, and will soon have fresh blueberries. Peach season will be coming up soon also.
A fully ripe muscat, ‘not muscadine’, grape. They are delicious and seldom seen in the supermarkets.
I have had bad luck grafting them. Even when I got takes two of my trees died before the grafts matured. I have though tasted the nectaplum which is basically a white fleshed nectarine. It took a few years before fruit was good. Yes I will add a Saturn. I would though like to replace old mixon free. I lost it twice now!!
I could not even find a old Mixon free tree. Only scion was for sale. I am curious of the lifespan of the nectaplum. One of the reasons I bought the nectaplum was that is was a plum that is supposed to taste like a nectarine. Same with the trilite peachplum. I would be interested to see if it has the standard 8-20 years a peach or nectarine lifespan would be or if it has that nice long 40+ years a plum would have with the taste of a nectarine or peach.
Muscat grapes are getting really common in NJ as of late. There preaty much available all year now. The flavors are good but the textures are hit or miss if you like a firm berry.
Muscats are indeed incredible
Top tier peaches and mangosteens are probably the best fruits I have had. I also find that perfectly ripe large strawberries are not far behind.
The nectaplum is a gorgeous looking tree and very different then other nectarines.
I have found that out. While all my other plants have green leaves my Nectaplum has red. It is currently snowing so I am hoping all my trees make it. The nectaplum is the least hardy tree I have. My understanding from reading about plums on Raintree’s growing guild is they were one of the few plums bred for pot culture. That does not seem like much but it opens the growing gap of it massively if you have the right conditions.
Hopefully my cherry don’t get brown rot, it’s raining by me and is really warm. Do you live in the mountains that it’s snowing? Or it’s normal?
I live by the foothills but is is snowing all over the Denver Metro area. It is not normal for snow this late in the year. It is May 20th and our average last frost is May 5th. The part that makes this even more concerning is we did not have a snow since mid March and it has been super warm here so most of the trees are pretty much out of dormancy. I think I have some peach/nectarine multi grafted trees and a almond tree still dormant. My trees are going to have to do some serious rebounding. Another thing that sucks is Stark Bros sent asparagus roots for today and edible landscaping sent a potted pear tree today. I won’t be able to plant the bare root asparagus till Sunday and UPS does not come to my house until nearly 8 in the evening if they come at all anymore so not only will my potted tree be frozen but they were supposed to send it on Monday but sent it Tuesday which means if they sent it on time we could have avoided a frozen tree.
I really dislike when they do things like that, especially if you know a problem could have been avoided, here on the east coast we are getting near 100 temp which leaves me to wonder whether I need to protect my newly opened buds on my cherry
I like the taste of almost all fruit types so this is almost an impossible question to answer. Muscadine have been climbing my chart for the last few years. The newer releases are outstanding for fresh eating. It really helps that they grow so well at my location.
Does this taste anything close to any other fruit, I am not very familiar with how it tastes
I’m not good at describing taste. Muscadine grapes are somewhat like table grapes but with an attitude.
I can picture that
That last plate of plums made me salivate
Yes I like @Auburn 's description LOL
They are much more complex and nuanced than grocery store table grapes. Spicy, musky could be used to describe some of the flavor. Grape candy flavor too.
They have a thick skin unlike table grapes - some folks don’t eat the skin but i have no issues with it.
Is it possible to plant cotton candy grapes I’ve seed them in stores but not sure if they have them to plant
Not sure!
