These guys are getting big.
My automatic mowing system
Keep your head up @Melon ! Maybe it’s a different study! Also, they’re tracking that little bee to hopefully make environmental improvements. I see it as a good thing. Some scientist out there cares about what happens to our fuzzy little friend.
Also something was stalking the turkeys as well. One of my neighbor’s dog scared it back into the forest as they were going home from their walk. It sounded big by how much stuff it broke trying to run away from the dog. So we walked the turkeys back home after spending a few hours over at my place and before sunset.
They’re all hanging out in the backyard now. No idea when the owners are getting back but i never thought I’d ever have to participate in a wild goose chase in my life. The ducks and geese were looking at the turkeys today like “You said it was safe! You guys said it was safe here!”
Hilarious
Anyone want to take 100 of these home with you? Dont get me wrong i realize i will never starve. Part of we would rather starve than eat one more of them. Im not saying you wouldnt like them unless you have eaten as many as i have.
These wildlife in my garden are chiggers. Disregard the older scars that look like bruising. The chiggers love water and came with 3" of rain.
Lol
I had 1 but now 4 residents in my front yard alone every day to the point where the dogs don’t care.
They’re so cute though
The foxes and hawk keep our rabbit population low. We have a family that lives at the end of the driveway, but any closer to the garden they get means they are right under the hawk’s home, and he is not shy about taking them home with him. The only large hungry visitor in my garden is the gopher tortoises, but they always stop at the tasty weeds.
The hawks, owls, coyotes etc here eat rabbit everyday. They also eat sparrows , skunks etc. Like me they get tired of eating them.
The numbers dont work out here because they love what i love. It is intentional to a degree for my properties to be covered in game. I make brush piles for them and quail and thrushes etc to live. When i.was a kid an old man taught me to build places for wildlife so you would never starve. That old guy knew it was important to stack things in your favor. He was very satisfied seeing me grow up and watch the wildlife in an area increase by hundreds fold. Food is everywhere on my properties for everything that lives there. The rains are coming back which is increasing the clover. These legumes are increasing soil ferility. The rabbits , deer etc. Grow up to be very healthy eating leaves, clover, brome, and windfalls. The birds all eat mulberries and other fruits. The blackberries protect all the animals and birds while they raise their families.
Your photo shows one about the age of the wheat straw colored youngster I shot some weeks ago - and much better focused. Nice job.
Sorry I don’t have a photo of mantids coming out the foam nest. Well, it was foam as mom made the nest, then it hardened and the hatchlings escape after winter by the score or even hundreds.
Wool carder bee on its favorite plant:
Nice photos.
Thanks! Still amazes me what a 5 year old phone camera can do. Only disadvantage is that I end up taking so many photos that I struggle finding the ones I was looking for… taking too many!
Yep, I do the same thing. Always having trouble finding the photo when I actually need it.
Deer were eating the crabapple drops from my Firecracker crab out by the mailbox yesterday evening. My dog saw them and started barking at the window.
I looked out and noticed one of the fawns was an albino. At first I thought it was a goat.
I grabbed my camera and could only get a quick picture through the screen of the albino fawn, so I apologize for the poor quality of the photo. That little albino was the most skittish of the deer out there and took off across the front yard probably due to my dog’s loud barking. It will do well to be skittish because I would imagine that being bright white will cause it to be super visible to all predators day and night. It may not have a long life.
Here is the photo. If you enlarge it, you can see the little albino pretty well
