As Phlogopite mentioned, some good pictures of “LSU Cherry Bomb” would be much appreciated.
And details on the origin of this fig are going to be a must. There’s a lot of controversy on what gets to be a “real” LSU fig and what doesn’t. Where did this fig come from, when was it found? Why’s it called that? What would be the most similar fig taste-wise?
Well at least you have a sense of humor. That goes a long ways. I’m not familiar with your beef with Cajun B but curious what can you tell me about the LSU Strawberry?
I can tell you a lot….like no one else can. Like isaid ….I am an EXPERT on the LSU bred figs.

I have INSIDE information that even LSU does not have. LSU Strawberry is an Italian variety that came to South Louisiana via Immigrants into my area.
It is NOT a LSU bred fig. However, LSU did have it in one of their orchard. I personally knew the guy who planted it at LsU.
I knew people who worked with Dr. O’Rourke during the 1950’s.m breeding program. Like I said….100% reliable first hand information. I even knew Dr. O’Rourke who personally ID’d one of my LSU “lost fig” discoveries.
I made lots of discoveries and know their provenance.
There is so much more to the LSU fig story that YOU GUYS know absolutely nothing about……including people at LSU.
So your Cajun Dan. I was looking for you after reading an old article regarding T-ba1 I believe. Another fig that’s hard to dig up any information on. Anyways thanks that’s interesting about the LSU-S.
Sure ….go find my new Facebook Fig Group. Prepare to be amazed….I give information like no one else can.
That’s because I’m a fig Researcher and not a fig Collector.
Would this group allow the posting of links to my Fig Group?
Yes i am Cajun Dan. Also known as King.Fig and also The Fig Doctor.
FYI…I told the fig world many years ago that Smith and TX BA-1 are the exact same fig. I grew them side by side in my test orchards. I have other info that TX BA- 1 WAS NOT bred at Texas A&M. Just like Strawberry was not an LSU bred fig.
I reported that info so people would not grow both.
I personally know the grandson of the Croatian immigrant who brought the Smith Fig into the New Orleans area
Who else knows this Provenance but an EXPERT like me?
YOU GUYS have no idea as to the extent of my fig knowledge.
You don’t know the full LSU fig breeding program …so your assumptions are absolutely wrong. You are speculating about a matter you know nothing about. They call this……misinformation!
This is all stuff I also found researching. Some through your posts. One reason I’m growing a Texas Ba1 instead of a Smith. It was much easier to obtain here on the West Coast $7 from a place in Virginia called Edible Landscaping What’s cool is I show people my “Smith” fig leaves and she fits right in
I had beefs with lots of jealous fig collectors who wanted more than free information. A fig Researcher like me has different goals than those Fig Collectors.
I could name many names….but will not unless provoked. I have a very good memory. Best i leave that in the past. I have new and exciting news for the fig world. I found the best of the best…and can 100% prove it……as only a real fig Researcher can do.
I’m very much interested in hearing more and potentially growing LSU cherry bomb. If it’s half the plant from your Facebook page it sounds like a real winner.
Please give us whatever information you’re willing to share, if you don’t want to retype everything (I’m the same way) you could direct me to some of your previous posts on it
@TheFigDoctor you have established your cred well enough. Could you tell me about Cherry Bomb? I’ve no idea what it is or what it’s like or why it’s special. The best of the best is a tall ask for a fig, so I’m all ears.
