Nikita’s Gift Persimmon Sourcing

Tam Kam doesn’t produce any male flowers for me.

I would recommend Coffeecake for @hambone That one produces over a hundred fruit every year and hasn’t taken a break for the past 3 years. It’s one of the tastiest kaki. Pair it with Cheong Pyong for excellent pollination. I think Threefold Farm sells scion of that one. Any kaki fruit in your yard would be seeded.

There is a hybrid male “universal” that is becoming more available. That might be the ticket for those of us in cold zones.
It is reputed to also produce delicious fruit.

Ram,
Does this male model :grinning: have a name?

It’s called “universal’

Is it called Universal because it can pollinize kaki and virginiana?

Not sure of the reason for its name. It will definitely pollinate hybrids. And apparently has male/female flowers and fruit.
My grafts are small and I will only know in a few years.

Bohzy Dar is another that should pollinate all. It is a hybrid that has male, female and hermaphroditic flowers, which I think is also true of the kaki Cheong Pyong @PharmerDrewee mentioned.

Mine is still small and in a treepot for too long now, but seems fairly happy. It gave me 3 little fruit from hermaphroditic flowers last year, but only has one flower this year, which is either female or hermaphroditic. The flavor was good on the small fruit last year, but the female flowers should make larger fruit up to about 100g.

I believe the Ukranian growers prefer Universal for fruit. Bohzy Dar has the benefit of supposedly staying a fairly small tree.

Sir, how many trees did YOU personally bought from that nursery??? My guess is zero.
Read my post carefully, I did describe that one tree was dead and I received a refund for it.
And finally, no I do not work for a tyty nursery. It’s just breaks my heart to see how people who never dealt with the business put a bunch of …it on it.
Yes, I saw those 2 star :star: google reviews of them when I studied them first 4 years or so ago. I also studied their website, independently, as an independent thinker and decided that they are worthy of my shot.
Regarding those google reviews, I studied each of them - and concluded that many people who had a bad experience with growing their plants were absolutely incompetent. Like buying and planting a tree in May or June or July in South! And when the tree dies blaming the nursery. And yes, they pay money back. They did for me.
How about you? How many plants did you, YOU bought from them? At we talking as people with the same experience?
It seems like you are good to recite google reviews that’s all.
An no I don’t work for them lol! I went to a medical school, you know:). Maybe I should? Good people. I just recently had a question about their persimmon tree and yes, they replied my email with a very nice detailed answer. Didn’t they answer your
questions too? Or did you ever ask?

I am a ma’am but that is not the point. I have been around this forum from the beginning and on the other forum for several years before this. I have read a lot about TyTy. Have seen reviews by actual customers on the watch dog site. This company has had much more negative than positive reviews.

How long and how much have you read threads about TyTy? Good for you that they have been nice to you. You are a minority. Because you are one of few customers that have positive experience with TyTy does not mean people should not be warned about this nursery.

If a restaurant got one star for awful food and poor service by hundred of customers, do I need to eat there myself, just in case? My answer is no, There are many more good nurseries we should talk about than defending TyTy.

Here’s a couple hundred more reviews of TyTy, many with pictures showing the sorry plants:

A few people did have good experiences but it looks to be heavily weighted toward bad experiences.

The reputation of TyTy speaks for itself in customer reviews. They earned the ratings they have. Feel free to read them. There is no need for me to say anything positive or negative let the reviews speak.

My beef with tyty is not from having ordered from them. It is because they straight up ripped off a friend. I won’t repeat the story, but suffice to say that I will never purchase from tyty.

I got my two Nikita’s Gift trees from TOA. One failed under warranty and Neil send me a free replacement next season.

In Asian persimmons, I have two NG’s and one Saijo, all doing well so far.

No flowers yet on any of them.

I assume tyty is paying a service to bolster their rep, based on the above post supporting them… the way it’s written is quite interesting…

I have ordered from them, and not only did I receive a diseased white clingstone peach instead of the redhaven I thought I was getting, I got some unknown seeded red grapes instead of concord seedless. I would never buy from them again.

Edited to add: I have a nikita #4 that has 4 large fruitlets on it; it’s on its 3rd leaf. I’m not sure if it’s prone to the same drop as nikita’s gift. Either way, it’s pretty young so my plan was to remove all but two.

Don’t remove them until you are sure that they will hang on. In my experience, while most of my NG dropped when fruitlets were young, a few hung on for a while before dropping, just to stick it to me.

And the ones with good experiences seem to be before getting fruit and comparing them to what they are supposed to be.

Nikita #4 is a seedling from my understanding and shouldn’t have the same reputation from my limited knowledge. It was a beautiful specimen when I saw it at Cliff’s last year, definitely worth the effort to grow just based on the fruit load. I heard it’s pretty tasty too.

@mamuang Good point! I’ll leave them on. The tree doesn’t seem to be stressed by them and is still putting on some growth.

@disc4tw That’s good to know. I’m hoping they hold on. This and JT-02, which also has quite a bit, would be my first homegrown persimmons. But gardening does teach patience so I’ll survive if not…

Well, ma’am!
If I read about bad reviews about the restaurant, or any other business like tyty, I ask myself why and see if it makes sense to me. If it doesn’t and my personal impression tells me otherwise, I try it myself, and in this case, my judgment was right. And btw you have to have an ability to independently analyze things too. Your personal experience what makes you an expert not a recital of others. I decided that this business is worthy dealing with and yes they didn’t let me down for about 4 years now. I would suggest you be more respectful towards other people experiences especially when you have none of yours.
And btw, I have been buying plants from some well known and not so nurseries online (about dozen of them) and have something to compare with. Oh I have stories to tell! Just ask me. And tyty has my business. Believe me, I am very critical of anything that looks wrong. Why wouldn’t you try tyty for a change? This way you actually will have personal experience and not operating gossip opinions.
But well, coming back to the famous persimmon tree i bought from them 2 summers ago… this year I have 2 fruits hanging on. It’s after it dropped 21 :).
Fingers crossed, will see if they make it to harvest.
And the grape vines i bought from them took off really well this year. The heritage raspberry plant took over so much space, that I may have regretted buying it lol, I needed that space!
The best thing about tyty is that when I place a request in my order line, please ship ASAP the next day I usually have an ups trucking number in my email! No one does it, no one.

@anon57750026 ,
It took you two weeks to come back with your response? What did you do in the meantime? Busy pushing this nursery on other gardening forums?

You have finally convinced me that you are a TyTy plant. No one in their right mind wrote what you wrote about this nursery. You have made sure you mentioned the name of this awful nursery over and over and over so people here see it again and again.

I told you before we do not need to have personal experience to avoid bad products, dangerous products. If you read that cyanide is bad for you, with your way of thinking, you would try it, right?
Please be advised to stop pandering this nursery to our forum members.
